Lip I havn't been sold on any of these PG turned coaches and I'm not sold on Billups either. My point was and is for Mark Jackson, Kidd and Billups is they were very successful Leaders for many years and in all cases were quite successful in the twilight of their careers so although Billups hasn't had as much twilight for various reasons. So they did a lot of winning by using the mental aspect of the game and leading more like a coach would. All I am saying is their success in the league at a key position and were significant leaders is a concrete reason they COULD be successful coaches. Of course some of the best coaches never even played in the league or played very little. Bird is one of the few coaches I can think of that was successful as a coach and was one of the all-time greats as a player. Magic was pretty awful as coach and wised up and moved on to other things that he has been widely succesful at.

Basically we are in agreement on Billups all I am saying. (In some cases like Kidd's success I'm playing devil's advocate to an extent) is guys like that shouldn't be dismissed because they don't have experience but yeah I'm not sold on Billups and every report I have heard the past few months says he wants to be in a FO job. Sounds like a good break from the grind of a season to me if I was him.

Looking for any shred of who that next young awesome coach would be I was curious about David Adelman since I liked what he did with the SL team and I've heard he is very smart when it comes to the game so I looked up everything I could find and he has had a couple DUIs in the past. The last one was in 2009. I was hoping for more positive info. When I think about coaching I think it and chemistry are both over and underrated things in the league at any given time for any gien team. I used to not be a believer in Spolstra but I think he has done a hell of a job with the Heat and I think he is a top coach. Flip needs to find that type of guy but its not that easy to do. Who thought Jeff H would be such a quick success with the Suns? NOBODY saw that team coming this year. Its kinda fun to look at where the good-great coaches came from and how their journey led to where they are at. I think its pretty hard to predict success of coaches but I don't have any significant studies or data points to draw from so its just what I have rattling around in this sleepy brain of mine. Lol

I'm in the minority, but I like the fact Flip has taken the role. Why? Because this tells me that he is temporarily filling in for a year or two until Hoiberg is ready to coach in the NBA, rather than hiring a retread coach to a long term deal. I also think he will bring the best out of Rubio, Bazz and Dieng.

I agree with this completely.

I hope the plan isn't "the Mayor in waiting" for a year or two. How is this job more attractive next year or the following year for anybody? This offseason was the time to strike on a good coach for the long term. Potential candidates saw why we weren't winning- closing out games (Adelman), poor substitutions (Adelman), tiredness in coaching. Love is still under contract-any decent coach could have seen potential in this team and should have been able to convince Love the same thing.

Good luck Flip. You have one year to make a big improvement.

I'm not sure if it's the Mayor. It could be someone else.
