I caught that, too, monster. I suspect the summer league has only confirmed Flip's fear that he needs a vet PG when Tyus just isn't ready to go. And that vet PG is not LoBrown.

I'll say this for Brown he played terrific on both ends of the floor tonight. He got caught up on some screen later in the game but he might have been getting tired. He was really attacking players with his D and attacking screens most of the game too so he wasn't caught up in them. Fields looked pretty good where has he been all our lives? Lol

Payne's ability to cover quicker players on switches has been impressive the last 3 games. He has really been able to move his feet. Someone mentioned about not confusing activity with being worthwhile but I would say Payne has been active with a purpose in this summer league. It's only 4 SL games but he showed out to be the type of player that was expected when he was drafted. I feel like we may have something there as a bench guy at least. One more Wolves SL game and then we can overanalyze the Pan Am games!!

Silly. Tyus Jones is a fairly slow and undersized PG that was drafted with a late 1st rounder. It's not completely asinine for someone to propose the need for a veteran PG given our history and his lack of upside and experience. Who knows? May be Flip really is thinking about nibbling at that 8th seed as he surveys his roster. Playing Tyus Jones potentially big minutes at PG would not help matters in that regard.
Just as silly as burying Jones after 3 summer league games. That's the point.
Don't disagree with the burying part based on SL play, but given his draft position and salary slot, it's not an unreasonable position for someone to say we should go get a legit 2nd stringer. I think some folks have watched him play in SL and it perhaps just validated in their minds what they already believed, fair or unfair.
Well then, I'm really angry about the 3 2nd round picks he cost us. If that isn't paying a high enough price to solve our backup PG issue, it should be. .
You do realize Tyus is only 19 and signed for more than just this year right? Tyus can still be the long-term backup PG solution if not this year. Rookies suck. Especially late first rounders. Bringing in a vet backup for just this year is not the end of Jones' career. In fact it would probably take a lot of the pressure off the hometown kid to need to perform as Ricky's backup right out of the gate. He's just looked overmatched thus far in the summer league. I don't see how that magically gets better in 3 months before the season starts. A 19 year old taken at 24 is probably more project than player at this point so he doesn't need to play immediately to justify the trade. If he had great physical tools I'd say throw him out there, but his physical makeup has me believing he'd benefit more from some D-league time adjusting to that level and then to the NBA than having him play NBA guards right away as a small teenager. Look at how much Lo Brown has improved since he was drafted. I expect Tyus to be a serviceable backup in the future, but I find it highly unlikely he can be that as the weak, small teenager he is right now at this level.

"He's heating up!"
With Towns being the 1st pick, I thought he'd go NBA Jam-Boomshakalaka and drop 20-10 each night without breaking a sweat.
I'm a knee-jerk reaction kind of guy. It usually takes me 2-3 regular season games before I label a pick a bust. In the case of Towns, I was ready to give him the ol' Bust stamp (with a capital-B) after his 2nd Vegas league game.
"What, Towns only had nine points in his 2nd game??!!" "Damn, should of drafted Okafor."
Tonight, I'm glad he settled down and showed a glimpse of his potential.
At least for now, all is right in the NBA world.

I'm not calling anyone out I'm just saying it's funny how we make judgments sometimes. The contrast between Lavine and Tyus coming out of college is amusing. One has all the physical gifts you can ask but lacks the experience and feel for playing PG. Tyus lacks some physical gifts but has the feel for the game and was the starting PG for the national championship team and was voted best player of the final 4 or whatever. Zach looked like a guy that belonged in general in SL last year. Tyus did in only one of the 3 games he has played and struggled in the other 2. In all honesty I hope Tyus gets some run this year besides garbage minutes even if Rubio stays healthy. I'd like to see him develop some and I think there is a decent chance he can be effective as a backup.
I do think some people at imes are dogging on his athletic gifts or lack thereof a little hard. You would think he was a short version of Delly coming out of college or something. Sure he has looked overmatched in SL at times but he isn't that bad as a physical specimen. I realize though this is a knee jerk reaction thread and people are sharing how they feel watching him and especially that last game the knee jerk reaction was pretty justified. It was brutal at times. The first game wasn't pretty either.

I see a lot of "bad trading 2 (or 3) 2nd round picks for the 24th pick. I get that.
But personally, I like it better than trading a 2nd round pick for cash or for a lower one (probably) in the 2019 draft. And both options might have been likely given past Wolves drafts. Saunders saw something he liked and had built up the assets to nab it.
Hopefully, it works. I haven't seen any summer league games... and I try to avoid knee-jerk reactions... but by what I'm hearing... it doesn't look good.

Abe, I those 2nd's had good value in drafting a player and stashing a player. I would have been happier if we would have traded up for Portis then Jones. It looks minor today, but if Young or Guillermo Hernangomez become solid pros and Jones falters it will look bad. Kind of like pass on Gobert.
I am all for getting a vet backup PG. Someone that can play up to 20 a night with a little game left and a great locker room guy.
