1) Taylor saves money, as mentioned.
2) It continues the Wolves recent goodwill tour for veteran NBA players looking for better places to play. Barea. Brewer. Mo WIlliams. To be fair, it shows other veterans around the league that Saunders doesn't like to dick them around and will work with them when possible. Conceivably, this goodwill could pay off down the line. Maybe. Possibly...

I agree with everything you wrote. But I have to admit that it doesn't sit well with me that Bud opting in on his player option this offseason. I understand why he did so (he wouldn't make that on the FA market). But still, it bugs me that he opted in when (per reports) he didn't want to play here. Isn't that a "dick move" on his part? I guess it's all business. Whatever. Now that's off my chest and I'm over it. Long live the Rudez era!

FWIW I don't remember the tweet or who tweeted it but it sounded like Bud opting in was a mutual thing for both him and the Wolves. By opting in he gets a sure $5 million this year and the Wolves also could keep him or move him. Obviously Bud probably wanted to move on but I am guessing he probably would have been fine starting the season with the team before getting moved in season. Is Rudez something to get wildly excited about? No probably not but I think people are too quickly dismissing him as trash.
Let's say the headline reads:

"Wolves trade Chase Budinger for ______ ______ who is over 40% 3 point shooter..."

That makes plenty of sense doesn't it?

Well...Chase shot over 40% from 3 point land before we got him too (11-12 season). That was the last time he was probably totally healthy. I was hoping he might regain that touch and be a bench shooter for us based on how he finished the season (healthy). And Chase does pretty much everything else better than Rudez based on metrics. But - whatever. The deal is done and I'm over it.

It's my theory that Minnesota is the place 3-point shooters come to die....until they are then subsequently traded again, in which case they play better for their next team of course.

If I felt like Rudez really could give us a Novak type presence off the bench and keep up that level of shooting, I'd probably want to keep the guy around. But I'm skeptical given our past luck. Or may be he goes Mike Miller on us and decides that he needs to teach the youngsters how to play all around team ball and forgo open 3-point looks for drives and dish-offs.

You can compare Bud's and Rudez' individual stats and think that Bud is much better player. But there is another way to compare them.

Bud was rotational player (with little over 1000 minutes) for injury plagued 16 win team and Rudez was rotational player for injury plagued 38 win team. Neither of them had much negative or positive impact for teams performance with Rudez having -0.7 plus/minus and Bud having -1.2. Typically when you compare players with similar roles from different teams, the player that has played for team that was much better, is also better player. For example no one thinks that Brandon Jennings is superior player compared to Tony Parker even though last years individual stats indicate so.

We were a 16 win team last year due to injuries and tanking. The year prior we won 40 games. Also when comparing records consider the West is certainly tougher than the East.

Indiana made the trade because Bud is an upgrade to Rudez. The Wolves made the trade because it sheds them of $4M in salary. Both teams got what they wanted out this deal.

Has anyone seen a good Budinger highlight video as a Wolf that we can use to remember the good times?

I agree with that. In this market Bud might have gotten his money back. Anyway he is gone. Not a big deal.

I would love too see you turn down millions of dollars in order to not make a dick move. Personally, I would punch an old lady right in the face for the amount of money that Bud would of have to of given up
