Most of these guys are either a lot longer or a lot more athletic than Luka. Luka actually doesn't have terrible measurables for a Center, but if you are going to be as slow and unathletic as he is, then you better be really tall. That's where similar sloths like Edey or Kalkbrenner have an advantage. At least you can put them in drop coverage and they will bother/deter some shots. With Luka, you can go around AND over him!

I will say this...even if we don't draft a prototypical Center in terms of size, I'd still be fine with a prototypical PF sized-guy that has the length and defensive reputation to play some Center (think Al Horford and Draymond Green). Tim's guy Rasheer Fleming is a little on the short side for a traditional Center, but has a huge wingspan and the heft to hold his own in the paint.

What we can't have is yet another big that is all offense and sketchy defense! I feel like one of Connelly's misses over his tenure is having an over-abundance of offensive-oriented bigs in Randle (and KAT before him), Naz, Garza, and Leonard Miller and literally only one defensive-oriented big in Rudy. Totally unbalanced.
to be fair, where else would the offense come from?
Jaden, Shannon, Dillingham....shift more of it to our perimeter oriented players.

But it's not even the imbalance with the main rotation guys, it's the fact we have no defensive big in the pipeline/end of bench either, thus I mentioned Garza and Miller as well.
Maluach (who is going top 10) Berringer, Sorber are the best defender centers. Collin Murray Boyles is the best Draymond Green shorter type 6"7 big. Fleming is a solid defender as well at the pf spot. I actually think this is an excellent draft as far as defensive guys at all positions. Offensive guys is a little harder to grade out in this draft.

Ha, yeah, perfect name. Unfortunately, his defensive potential is more like a lamb.

Yeah, and a couple of those PF types can actually play Center, as it's very rare these days that an NBA team plays a true Center for more than 70 to 80% of a game. Draymond was Golden State's starting Center in the playoffs. Horford was Boston's starting Center during their title run last year. Neither of those guys have typical Center size.

I think it's good to have a huge guy or two for the Embiids and Jokics of the world, but that's where Rudy comes in assuming we keep him.

Back to the draft...I'm pretty sure if Connelly really, really wanted one of those guys, he could move up to get him or one of them might fall right in his lap at 17 if we keep the pick. Alas, I don't think he ends up burning assets to move up in this draft, but I'm just saying it's possible.

Sorber is also the guy that I want us to take. Really impressive.

The @Timberwolves are hosting a draft workout today with the following prospects:

Sion James (Duke)
Nique Clifford (Colorado State)
Miles Kelly (Auburn)
Noah Penda (France)
Hansen Yang (China)
Cliff Omoruyi (Alabama)

Nique will probably be in the mix at 17 if the Wolves like the bigs at 31.

A month ago, I leaned towards wanting us to trade at least one of our two picks. But looking at the talented bigs in this draft I now think we should pick and keep two bigs. My thought would be drafting Sorber or Fleming at #17 and one of the following depending on availability at 31: Beringer (probably gone by the), Kalkbrenner, Konan, Yang or Raynaud.

I can get on board that idea Lip. Maybe draft one with all round ability and the other with a special skill.

I'm just hoping some other team trades for Durant before the draft, otherwise, the draft will be no fun as Ill expect the Wolves are picking for Phoenix or another team.
