Didn't watch much of game, but the highlights- underlying numbers- and community commentary is pretty discouraging.

I'm just ready for the playoffs to start cause right now this team is just zero fun

I hear what you're saying, Aussie, because this team might be the most underperforming team in the NBA...it's really easy for me to rip them even when they are winning. But I don't agree that watching them is zero fun. Donte's constant hustle and impact at both ends of the court is really fun for me to watch. Ant's continued brilliance on the offensive end (was anyone surprised at all he made that clinching well-guarded trey in clutch time last night?) can be really fun to watch. Also Jaden's development as an offensive force and rim protector. Yes, this team can be frustrating, but I'm still enjoying watching them when I get the chance.

Ha! Good for Ayo. We have a lot riding on him becoming a net positive player.
I need no further evidence...the results are in, and Ayo has clearly turned the corner!

All seriousness aside, I watched the entire game last night, and I thought it was his best game so far with us. His defensive intensity was there as always, but I didn't notice him getting lost as often as I usually do. I have a difficult time describing why his offense falls short of what we need, but he seems to defer to Ant, Ju and others in a way he didn't in Chicago. He's also making 35% of his 3's with us compared to the 45% he was making in Chicago this season. I posted earlier that I didn't see him as either the 45% shooter he was this season before the trade or the low 30s shooter he was a couple seasons...I thought just north of 35% was more likely his normal. And if he pushes the pace, hustles on defense, and makes 35%+ of his treys, he will help us off the bench.

This will help the Wolves defensive rating. LoL

DDV's work ethic should be contagious and would be on other teams. Love watching him play. I still think the best change of pace lineup is a 3/2 matchup zone with DDV, Ayo, Bones and Ant and Jaden down low. Would love to see them play 94 ft of hell for a few minutes every game to change things up. Anything to get Randle off the floor.

I think our expectations are just a lot higher now that we've made it to two WCFs in a row. We want to see continued improvements of players and the team as they aim to go further and finally get us to the finals for the first time. We do see Ant doing things that were never though possible of him on offense. We see Jaden look incredible some games, and he has clearly taken a step forward. We see Donte hustling and finding ways to be effective beyond just hitting threes. We've seen Rudy have a better year than last season, when a lot of people thought he had started to decline. Naz started the year bad after facing a tragedy, and he's picked it up and is looking like the clear 6th man of the year again. The defense is the biggest thing that annoys most of us this year, that and a lack of Joan minutes. The bench was terrible this year, after letting NAW walk and Mike being cooked, but it's starting to come around with Bone for a bit and Ayo now. Hopefully Kyle can add to that bench contributions. The defense may not be fun to watch now (although I believe it's still top 10) but let's hope it's something they can still lock in come the playoffs. If not we have several players that will get hunted.

Yep, still 8th in defense and 10th in offense. But it only goes to show how vital Rudy is to this team. I'm still suffering from PTSD thinking about the 135 points we gave up to a 76er team missing some key players when Rudy was out.

Where does their offense and defense rank over the last month or so? Cause at the beginning of the year they were straddling 5th in both categories, and at one point I think I saw them in the top 3 defensively.

Bottom line in my opinion is that they are heading in the wrong direction as far as "figuring things out." Of course what's so damn frustrating about this team is that I am fully confident that when the playoffs start they're gonna flip a switch and look much much better. I just don't know that I trust that a team can fight their lesser habits for a whole championship run.

I’m not confident they’ll flip the switch in the playoffs. Playing with effort and intensity is a habit that builds over time. We built that habit the last couple months of last season and it carried into the playoffs. We’re not seeing it this season and if we’re not seeing it by now we shouldn’t expect to see it in the playoffs. Hope I’m wrong.

Through 10 games in February, the Wolves have the #9 offense and #20 defense. Yeah, not inspiring. And it's against a bunch of compromised teams with injuries, rest days, tanking, etc.

There is still time for things to gel, but they are running out of time to vanquish their bad habits. Ant seems adamant that he's not passing the ball late in games. Randle is depressed or something. Naz, Jaden, and the bench sort of come and go. Rudy and DDV seem like the only two guys that give a professional effort night in and night out and they aren't perfect either.
