Grizzlies just waived Kennedy Chandler.

I can recall a few of us giving him strong consideration in last year's draft.

We gotta bring him in.

Who do we cut though, like they are not going to cut Rivers to bring a rookie in for the playoffs

It's not even about the playoffs. We can use him here for the future. Have him (or someone like him) be the third guard who can learn from Mike Conley and the Wolves can treat Minott and Chandler as their two projects headed into next season.

I get that but the wolves still need to cut someone to bring him in. I don't think there is a guy they are willing to cut at the moment, due to wolves lack of guard depth and Nowell knee issue, I just don't see how they cut rivers

Some thoughts:

If some team wants to they could put in a waiver claim and keep Chandler on his current multi year contract.

Somewhat amusingly Memphis signed Jacob Gilyard as their 2 way after they gave Lofton Jr an NBA deal. Gilyard played 3 games for the Wolves SL team.

Is Chandler better than one of the top G-league PGs that are also available? I have no idea. I liked him coming out of the draft but I didn't love him...but if you told me then we could possibly just add him to the roster for nothing I would be like absolutely...but why is he available for nothing. Now? Not against it but idk if I'm dying to get him either.

The Wolves did add a smaller PG in Conley so that questions my theory that they are not valuing smaller PGs. Of course they are also playing NAW sort of minutes at that spot so...yeah. I'm still not sure Chandler (at his size) is the type of player they are going to go after. If they think he has legit potential they should make a move to bring him in...unless another team can claim him first.

I dunno... maybe the Grizzlies know something about this Chandler guy that made him disposable.

This also, last time they cut bait early on a rookie was Wade Baldwin they were not wrong. I respect GMs when they admit a mistake and move on. (Might be in the same spot as Wendell Moore, who was the last guy in today)

The Grizzlies are an organization that tends to stick with and give lots of opportunity to their young players. The fact that they're letting Chandler go after only one season in spite of where they drafted him and his team-friendly contract tells me there's a serious issue. In the abstract, I like the idea of signing him for his long-term potential as a successor to Conley. But I see a big red flag of some kind with him. TC should do his due diligence, but I think he'll find risks that should cause him to pass.

The Grizzlies had a bunch of draft picks and right now that draft class for them looks like a mixed bag. Lofton looks like fun UDFA success story and sometimes you cut loose a guy because someone is simply better. Memphis lately has done pretty well in finding useful talent.

Meanwhile unless a team claims Chandler the Grizzlies will have over 3.7 million the next 2 years in guaranteed money for a guy that won't be playing for them...unless they bring him back. You wonder if they thought either maybe he would be claimed or he simply wasn't willing to sign a 2 way deal if he cleared waivers. One of the problems with a guy like Chandler at his size is that if he doesn't pan out as a PG then...it's basically over. Compare that to a versatile wing (at least in theory) like Moore Jr he has a few ways he can at least be someone useful/successful.

Meanwhile the way Kris Dunn has played for Utah what kind of contract would you give him even if with the assumption that he would be a guy like Prince who would miss some games every season? To be fair Prince is more relatable health wise than Dunn but anywho.

The Wolves got a gift tonight with the Thunder beating Pelicans. The Wolves should be able to use their size advantage with Rudy and KAT to beat the Thunder.
