World & Cam I wasn't suggesting that getting Young was short sighted. I was referring only to the Budinger trade. I really like Young and hope we can sign him to a reasonable contract.

Good point Ricky

why would we have drafted jones with Love on the roster?

Because he was the best player available
I believe in taking the BPA and he is the guy I would have drafted had we kept our pick

Don't buy it. It was the first year of Loves extension, so drafting for Loves replacement seems stupid. The team had no shooting which Bud provided. Also the win now makes less sense when Bud was just 23 at the time.

It wasn't Adelman win now mode so much as logical basketball moves

Also Derrick Williams was on the roster so drafting a young PF type seems unlikely withh that pick.

Also what seems to beforgotten was the team was in desperete need of wings at that time. Looking back that team had nobody (unless I am forgetting someone) any good team would be relying on for rotational minutes this season. I think we all knew it was a problem then but its even worse know knowing what those guys became. It might even make the Bud trade more defenseable not that I am intending to. I'm just reminding people of the situation at the time.

I think Ricky's main point was the win now philosophy kept us from building the team the right way. Not necessarily that we should have drafted a power forward, specifically Jones.

I said it at the time and it turned out exactly as I feared. We had a three headed monster (Kahn, Adelman, Taylor) who for various reasons had to try and win right away. I said we would be forgoing the future to try and be a low seed. Of course we failed, and it set us back further in the manner we should have been building. I saw that coming from a mile away.

Yes I think that was the point also. I don't disagree with that point although I think you can make a good argument for the Bud trade...however

Here is the reality for the PF position that we didn't have anyone ready to fill. Derrick Williams should have beeen the fallback option that many Wolves fans actually mentioned in case Love ever left. Williams should have been a Thad Young type guy that at the very least would have been a fun placeholder if not someone you could hope he improves to be a legit starter. Instead Williams sucked and sucks and wouldn't have helped this team much even if he was still here. That was a brutal pick that didn't turn out and it really hurt the franchise especially considering how the Love situation played out. It was bad luck I don't thiink even Q who was the least high of anyone on Williams at the time of the draft would have guess Williams would turn out this poorly.

I'd argue exactly the opposite Monster. We gave away two firsts to upgrade from Wes to Bud. Wes was not shooting the ball well, but was a much better defender than Bud, and more athletic as well. I was not a fan of either, but considering Bud was on the last year of his deal, I was completely against the trade and knew we would end up overpaying the following season. I would have never guessed by how much considering Bud's knee injury though.

Adelman only saw the offensive side of things when making a decision.

Just to clarify I wasn't making an argument either way on the Bud trade. My point was solely that Williams failure is a significant reason the Wolves are looking outside the organization for a PF
