Hopefully your last point is only true for a couple more weeks at most. I'm really hoping for a Zack Wheeler signing followed by some other moves to boost the ceiling of this team. There are plenty of ways the leadership can go, but an obvious emphasis has to be put on starting pitching followed by corner infielder, and then a fourth outfielder and backup catcher are also needed.

Excatly what I been saying if they dont spend this offseason they never will. I will say I dont think the twins don't need a 4th outfielder I think Wade and Cave are just fine in that role. It will be interseting if Cave gets traded this offseason. Brining Odo back was the floor for this team lets see how high they go from there.

I'm personally not a Jake Cave fan and his atrocious performance in the post-season didn't help. I think there are much better veteran options that either are available right now or could make themselves available this winter.

If the twins do end up trading Rosario away. I'm real big on bringing Alex Gordon in ona one year deal. Even though the bat isnt there consitently anymore, hes still a gold glove caliber left fielder on defense.

Alex Gordon was exactly one of those veterans I had in mind as a fourth outfielder. His play in the outfield is still well above average and the bat has cooled down significantly, but it's still passable for a major league lineup.

If Eddie Rosario was traded -- assuming it'd be in an effort to nab a front of the rotation starting pitcher -- I think Nicholas Castellanos would be a sneaky good addition. His gap-to-gap power and contact heavy approach would play well at Target Field and in between Jorge Polanco, Max Kepler, and Nelson Cruz as another right-handed bat in the Twins lineup.

Castellanos isn't a great defender by any stretch of the imagination, but he couldn't be any worse than Rosario last year and Minnesota won plenty of games with him.

Take this for what it's worth, but Darren Wolfson says the Twins can lock up Zack Wheeler today for a five-year, $84 million contract. If that's really the price tag on him, that deal should already be completed. I was expecting him to be in the range of five-years, $100 million primarily because of how many suitors he should have. 5/84 is an easy call in my mind, though.

I think 5/100 is what wheeler wants but 5/90-94 is what he will get. If they can get him for 5/84 signs me up and go get Rendon. Even at 30 mil for Rendon they still would have 10-20 mil to spend. Its crazy how good of job they've done with the books keeping them clear.

Signing Anthony Rendon would be a move unprecedented in Minnesota Twins history -- and I would love it. That just has never been the franchise's way of operating. It's not even a given that they'll be aggressive enough in trying to sign Zack Wheeler. But you're right that the money is there and the payroll is flexible right now. If there was a prime time to strike big in free agency for the Twins, it would be this off-season.

I'm not sure if Rendon would even have interest in Minnesota, but it couldn't hurt to throw a number at him and see if he bites.

I think that Wolfson report is from Wednesday. Looking quick at Twitter it sounds like the market might be heating up for Wheeler. I'd probably do the 5/84 but I also don't know what the other options they might be looking at. 5 years is a long tine but if he is kinda good 84 million didn't feel like...that big of an amount of money. They would lose a draft pick but if this guy was a good #2 starter I wouldn't be concerned about that at all.

As my time as a scout I want to bring up the ridiculousness these teams won't give up a 3rd round pick for guys. It's a 4-5% chance or less that you'll find a starter in the 3rd round. This list includes all players with a War over .5

2014 Brian Anderson MIA, Jordan Lupow CLE
2015 Brandon Lowe TB, Jordan Hicks Stl
2016 Sean Murphy Oak, Aaron Civalie CLE, Zac Gallen MIA, Jesus Luzardo Oak and borderline Dustin May LAD
2017 Nobody yet
2018 Nobody yet

So to recap in 5 years as of now 2 stud prospects in May and Luzardo. Two #3/4 type pitchers in Gallen and Civalie. One closer who might never have the same velocity again because of arm problem. Utility guy in Lupow and pretty decent 2nd basemen in Anderson. Then one all star in Lowe.

So if I just take 2014-2016 because maybe not enough time has past for 2017 and up. Chance of getting players based on 90 3rd round picks.

Borderline All Star 1% or 3% if you count may and Luzardo but they haven't done it yet.

Quality starting pitcher 4%

Starting line up player 2%

Utility player or better 4%

I just think it's sad that guy like Odo had to sign a one year deal because nobody wanted to give up 3rd round pick for a guy who literally made the all star game. I'm happy the twins got him on that deal but there's no reason for Odo not get a 3/46+ type deal.

It's not just what that player could become it's also an asset a team could trade but...yeah sure if you get a true impact player you don't really worry about it. It's more like if I'm on the fence on signing a guy AND then I have to give up a draft pick? Yeah then it's enough to sway me.

Twins have the available payroll to be all-in on Anthony Rendon. The only reason they wouldn't make an effort for him is if they felt like Josh Donaldson had comparable value at a much cheaper price tag -- his 6.1 WAR compares nicely to Rendon's 6.3. Would be an interesting fit.

Wolfson tweeted the Twins have kicked the tires on some 3rd baseman including Donaldson.

The provided link includes Darren Wolfson's reports. As a fan, I could rally myself behind Josh Donaldson -- however, I have zero interest in the likes of Todd Frazier.
