Late Night DVR Review:
- Odd game. Russell resurrected a dead team in the 4th when he went on one of his heaters. I still "wouldn't pick him for pick up" and think he's "the worst player who gets minutes in the NBA." Ahem.
- Curry makes just ridiculous shots. Good thing he went ice cold late in this one. I think the Warriors will be lamenting letting this one get away. The Wolves battled... but the Warriors gave it away in many ways, too.
- The Wolves are 26 - 49 (53%) from the line over the past two games. It cost them one game... almost a second one.
- Edwards had a rough night.
- Garza is looking more and more exposed in recent outings.
- Nowell is getting deeper on that bench.
- I thought besides Russell's crazy good 5 minute stretch, Kyle Anderson had the next-best stretch of the night. Tip outs. Blocked shots. Buckets. And extra passes.
- The Wolves might have gotten a couple of favorable calls. Maybe NBA officials will lose sleep over this one as much as they did when they messed up vs. The King guy.
- Gutty, gritty win. A big, BIG win to keep the hopes alive.

Re: Unexpected Goodness (Wolves vas GS Three)
I haven't watched the game. Just looked at the box score. Based on the box score, I'd say that Naz Reid was clearly the biggest key for the Wolves and that Anderson gets the runner up award. At the same time, both Edwards and DLO came up big in the scoring column. Edwards turned the ball over 6 times and shot terribly from behind the arc while DLO fouled out in regulation. But credit to both of them for their big-time scoring tonight. The box score also suggests that Rivers was another important key to tonight's win.
Back to DLO. He was ice cold the last game before tonight. But he's been hot and effective overall for a pretty long stretch and his play has been a big factor in the Wolves climbing to 3 games over .500. Looking at what DLO and Naz did tonight reminds me of why I think it would be a mistake to trade either one this month. Let's finish the season with the guys we have and see what happens. When the dust settles on this season (and hopefully the post-season playoff), TC and his cohorts will be able to make fully informed decisions in the summer, including decisions on whether to re-sign DLO and/or Naz. One question will be whether Naz even wants to stay here playing behind KAT and Gobert. If that's the case and Connelly is determined to keep Gobert, then I see the case for trading Naz before the deadline. But I still wouldn't trade him.

The 4th Q and OT are worth the watch. Pretty much wolves played good offensive basketball and bad defensive basketball though 3 quarters but they continued to fight. In the 4th Dlo went into his I can't miss mode, Naz was taking it at Draymond (Naz missed a lot of key 3s), Mcdaniels and Rivers shut down Steph and in OT Ant closed the door (Ant was meh tonight but it's crazy what a meh game now looks like for Ant)
The starters plus Prince and Rivers played their asses off. Playoff intensity guys limping everywhere. Just a gutty win all around

This was not really a boxscore type of game, Lip.
Unless you break it down by quarters. I saw something that the Warriors had a 117+ offensive rating through three quarters... then had a ridiculously low 58+ offensive rating in the 4th and OT as they turned it over 9 times, missed shots and saw the ball slip out of their hands on the way to dunks.

Thanks for the download, Kek. I'll have to watch the replay.

davemang wrote:Hope anderson's back is ok, he's just so solid (even when he isn't doing a ton of scoring). Ditto for Jaden. Mixed night for Ant, some bad decisions and shot selection and I thought he was out of control trying to foul hunt on a bunch of drives, but the take against wiggins et all when jaden could barely walk up the court in OT was magical. I thought DLO fouling out was going to curse OT, but Ant and Naz stepped up and our defense was pretty solid.
Anderson did something really important on nearly every possession going both ways during that entire OT. Can't remember if he scored a point, but he was pivotal during OT.

Nobody dare mentioned that DLo fouling out early in 4th probably helped us win! ;-)
And it was nice to see Wiggins be the player I was so happy to see us trade!
DLO is becoming a "can't live with him, can't live without him" type of player. I mean, we lose that game if he doesn't play last night. Period. He literally shot us back into the game. But then when things get tight and a team spreads us out.....not sure he's as valuable in those situations.
On Wiggins, I guess the trade is too much in the rearview mirror for him to wake up enough to give 100%, although I thought he tried to turn it on defensively a couple times there. His big error was fumbling that pass where he had a wide open layup. Ouch. Earlier in the game he had a rebound squirt out of his hands for no reason. So the weak-ish hands still come back to bite him from time to time, but overall I thought he was fine. He'll be important for them when the playoffs roll around.

How much of that was on the Warriors and how much due to the Wolves defense, I don't know.....BUT....it is nice to see this team grind out some wins with defense, grit, and ugliness. You just gotta be able to gut some of these out in the NBA and it seems like what has historically been a soft squad is developing some mental fortitude and resiliency. The Toronto win is the other one of recent memory where we just locked things down late.

The Curry turnover 70 feet from the hoop... the Wiggins fumble... and Poole dropping a rebound out of bounds immediately come to mind as plays where the Timberwolves did absolutely nothing to cause those critical errors.
Kerr went public with comments about the Warriors essentially shitting the bed. Apparently, the Warriors have choked a few games like this away this season.
Personally, I thought the Wolves were gritty and did some things (mostly see Russell's explosion), but they were headed for a loss anyway if Golden State didn't implode in the final 17 minutes.
Re: Unexpected Goodness (Wolves vas GS Three)
Klay Thompson is a shell of himself. That guy used to frighten the hell out of me. I know they won the championship last year but they are not the same team. Curry clearly cant carry them every night. We really had no business winning that game yet here we are. What a season.
