Azubuikie for Okogie.

Yes that what I was thinking. Project big on rookie scale contract. Gives us another big body, genuine 7ft.

Udoka Azubuike might turn into a fine player one day, but that trade -- Josh Okogie for Azubuike -- feels like making a trade just to make a trade. Minnesota's probably better off just keeping Okogie and using him situationally like they've been doing.

I think if they want to target a big they can get someone better than Azubuike and ready to contribute immediately.

Okogie definitely has some value. I know defensive stats can be a bit shaky, but he rates out really high in a number of the advanced defensive stats and the eye test supports that. He's a guy you can throw at a big wing for 4 or 5 minute stretches and he can help. I guess that's what gives him value for a potential playoff squad.....but WE are a likely playoff squad!

Darren Wolfson:

"Minnesota's definitely trying to trade for Marcus Smart, but unless they include a first-round pick or Jaden McDaniels in addition to Malik Beasley, it most likely doesn't get done."

It sounds like the Wolves have the right idea -- targeting a playmaking guard with defensive chops -- but they're chasing the wrong guy, in my opinion. I would not give up a first-round pick or Jaden McDaniels in a trade for Marcus Smart and his bloated contract.

I would hate this so much

Smart and Beverley as bulldog guard options gives our d an even bigger boost. His contract is smaller than Beasley. He may not be the player he was but dude has legitimate grit. I wouldnt mind a Beasley Smart deal just not for Jaden.

He'd give us two guys in the top 10 in defensive EPM, the other being Jarred Vanderbilt.

My issue, besides his contract, is his iffy shooting. But still....the plus-minus gods have smiled upon him his entire career. He must be doing something right!

Marcus Smart makes $77-million over the next four years whereas Malik Beasley makes $32-million over the next two with the final year being a team option. Apples to oranges in terms of contracts. I'm not a Beasley fan, but I wouldn't move him straight up for Smart. I think there's a better deal elsewhere. Hell, I would rather trade Beasley for that Josh Richardson + Aaron Nesmith deal with the same team!

Yeah, playing next to Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, among other really solid players throughout his career! Kudos to Marcus Smart. Very savvy!

In all seriousness, Smart's an OK player. He's just not worth what he's set to be paid or the price to acquire him, especially when there are significantly better options available. That's my take on it.

Oh I missed Smart's extension. Yeah that number is big. He does theoretically still have some good years left if he is our contingency when Beverley leaves. But yes I agree that Richardson and Nesmith is a better deal, but I still wouldn't balk at Smart being a long term piece instead of Beasley.
