This continues the pattern of bigs signing multi-year contracts averaging between 8 and 12 million per year. Still hoping to hear news about the Wolves signing Jalen Smith to a 2-year contract averaging around $10-11 million per year. I'm not holding my breath however.

Yikes. The Lakers really are going up in flames. They must be hoping that he's Malik Monk 2.0.

Not sure why he is worth that much money. A flyer on a young player? Sure but that's a decent chunk.

Meanwhile the Troy Brown Jr signing for the Lakers for the vet min I like a lot more. He does some stuff and turns 23 in a few days.

A max contract for Deandre Ayton would look like five-years, $177-million or four-years, $131-million, approximately. I'm out on Ayton at that price point. The fit isn't great despite his productivity. I also don't think he's worth losing D'Angelo Russell in the process. Ayton especially requires quality guard play to get him involved offensively.

If Ayton can be had for lower, and the Timberwolves can make room for him using Malik Beasley and another lower contract, then perhaps that's a different conversation. Otherwise, it's a no from me.

That second year would affect their potential cap space and flexibility next summer so I wouldn't expect it at this point. Tim Connelly must know something I don't about the free agent class in 2023, which is entirely possible. I'm just not seeing any big fish that would be worth holding out for.

So far the guy I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get for the price is Hartenstein. It doesn't surprise me he landed somewhere else though. Gotta wonder if Mitchell Robinson's days with the Knicks are numbered.

There are already some deals I'm glad the Wolves didn't do. They might not be bad deals for the teams that did them but the Wolves aren't quite the pay up for an older vet for multiple years stage yet.

My friend who is a Kings fan is pretty happy with the Monk signing. They needed some 3 point shooting and they got some. That team has some talent.

I think the Wolves may be willing to sign a guy for more than this season but it's gonna have to be someone they really like and maybe a guy that signs for less than the full midlevel. Jalen Smith might be that type of guy.

I just terrified myself that the reason KAT hasn't signed his deal is that he wants to be united with Booker, and that's basis for the "Ayton to the Wolves" steam. That's the sort of thing I do to my tender psyche.

Ha! Relax. Karl-Anthony Towns is supposedly on vacation with Jordyn Woods. He'll sign an extension soon enough,

Sometimes having that cap space isn't just about getting a max guy sometimes you can add a pretty good player or maybe you make a trade. What if there is a Brunson type player available next year? Probably won't happen but as aggressive as the Wolves have been maybe none of the players that would would like to see here signed to multi year contracts were particularly interested in coming her for various reasons. Is still June so we will see what happens. There is usually some good players available past the first wave or 2.
