Not much for Grant in my opinion

Huh. It's surprising to see very good players moved for relatively little in return. Christian Wood and now Jerami Grant. I wonder who else is available.

We're seeing a strong buyer's market for NBA bigs this summer. That's not surprising given the role of bigs in today's NBA and the rather large supply of good free-agent bigs available. This is a good time to go bargain shopping for bigs. Capela? Holmes? Nurkic? Mo Bamba. With the possible exception of Nurkic, the Wolves would have to trade for one of those four guys. But if the Wolves are interested, they should drive a hard bargain. Meanwhile, the Wolves could simply sign Hartenstein, Drummond or Smith as a free agent. I don't see any of those three requiring more than the MLE.

So Portland was able to absorb all that salary? WTF! Seems a little one sided, as I imagine Grant will return to being a more impactful player as a 3rd option behind Lillard and Simons versus being a top 2 scoring option. Portland may not be an easy out next season if they keep this up. Crap.

I think Grant is a little overrated and think the wolves are still better but the west keeps getting harder

I think Detroit should have traded Grant last trade deadline but maybe they didn't like any of the deals that much. Still the Pistons either have cap space to absorb another player or a trade exception to do the same. I think that's probably just as valuable as the 2 assets I thought Grant would bring. Plus there may be value for Detroit to have a future pick instead of one this draft.

It does feel a bit disappointing that another pretty good player got moved for not a whole lot. Still would I have given up Beasley and say #19 for Grant who could walk in a year? Would Detroit have actually preferred that deal to what they ended up doing? No idea.

What happened with both of these deals tell me that teams are valuing having cap space either this season and/or next season. I think that means that if you are willing to take on salary beyond this season some players might be had for essentially nothing but a matching salary. Heck teams might even get a random minor asset for taking on that salary. I'm starting to think The theoretical Beasley for Holmes deal the Kings may need to sweeten that based on the market and depending on the price the Kings might be willing to make it happen. The thing is with Holmes getting a trade bonus do the Wolves want to pay him that much money going forward even if it's fairly reasonable?

I hope so, but I'm still skeptical he's gonna ever get thru a year playing over 70 games. New Orleans should have drafted Ja.

Until this off-season, I wasn't sure if they were rebuilding, reloading or going for it. Grant and pursuit of OG, tell me its the latter. I think Portland will aggressively seek to resign Nurkic. I'm thinking we probably have to focus on Hartenstein, Bamba, Drummond and Jalen Smith as I don't think we can outbid Portland for Nurkic and I'd have to assume that he'd stay there for the same money.

Well...I think it's fair to be a little concerned about Ja's health too.

C'mon man! Grant, OG, Simons, Lillard. I was really hoping Portland would blow it up and trade Lillard to the East. But of course they are looking to get better now just to make it harder for us! Dammit!
