I hope nobody took my line about Towns committing more fouls than he got as a career-long indictment against the officials.
To be clear... it's embarrassing how often he fouls offensively... and doesn't seem to be too interested in fixing the situation himself.

With Ant it could be a different story. Ant is 64th in fouls drawn but 34th in drives. Of those 33 players who drive more than Ant only Garland, Cunningham and Herro get the whistle less.
Think it is interesting that all 4 of those guys are really young in terms of NBA service. So the "earn your stripes" could be a factor here what is stupid
Thanks for the research here, kek, and also in the post above. A few thoughts:
1) It's good to see that KAT draws more fouls than he is called on. I do think we advance the narrative that the refs are too tough on KAT too much here.
2) The McDaniels fouling situation is a recurring issue with him. He averaged 4.3 fouls per 40 minutes at Washington, and it was a major factor in his limited minutes. I think he has so much potential on defense and is realizing a lot of it, but he needs to control the fouls. Frankly, I'm more optimistic about Jaden improving in this area than I am about KAT.
3) Others have mentioned this, but Ant's extraordinary body control allows him to avoid contact around the basket, and limits the number of "and 1's" he gets. He's young and a student of the game, so I expect to see a lot if improvement in this area as he matures...i.e., I want to see him actually seek contact rather than avoid it. If I were Finch, I would have Ant watch video of Dwayne Wade, who was a master of drawing contact around the basket. Can you imagine Ant's upside if he were shooting 11 free throws a game like Wade compared to the 3.7 he is taking? It's exciting to think of what kind of scorer he can become if he learns to draw fouls.
There is something to be said about the "hasn't earned his stripes yet" theory. It kinda sucks that officials almost haze these young players and then they are given more rope as they get more experience. I think there is a silver lining in this as far as Ant is concerned: There is more upside to be gained by virtue of just getting more reps in versus having to develop a new skill.
What's also interesting is how we still see the inconsistency by the refs in how they call contact initiated by the offensive player. They have definitely cleaned up the Harden-esque and Trae Young-esque chicanery of unnatural acts. They are also giving defending bigs a lot more leeway to wall up and absorb contact.
But the one thing last night that bugged the shit out of me was the tight whistles on Memphis fastbreaks. I mean, our guy basically just stood there totally walled up without reaching or hitting the shooter's arm and they'd call the foul every time. Just because you are backpedaling while the offensive player plows to the basket doesn't mean it's a foul.

Karl-Anthony Towns leads the NBA with 42 offensive fouls and no other player has more than 28.
Towns has 42 offensive fouls in 1,213 minutes or 1 every 29 minutes. All other Wolves combined have 55 offensive fouls in 8,942 minutes or 1 every 163 minutes.
Karl-Anthony Towns is on pace for 82 offensive fouls.
Usually the NBA leader each season is around 50-60.
Most offensive fouls by anyone in the past 10 seasons is 68 by ... Karl-Anthony Towns in 2018-19.
No one has had more than 82 offensive fouls since Eddy Curry in 2006-07.
Karl-Anthony Towns offensive fouls per 82 games:
2021-22: 98
2020-21: 82
2019-20: 66
2018-19: 72
2017-18: 46
2016-17: 51
2015-16: 43
50 in a season is a lot. 60 usually leads the NBA.
Towns' offensive foul totals are out of control at this point. Truly in a class by himself.
(All of these are from Aaron Gleeman)
*note I didn't take your comment that way.

Thanks for the stats, kek.

So it's getting worse! And if you are ever compared to Eddy Curry on any basketball-related metric....not good. There was a stat line used for a period of time named after him that became a benchmark for futility. Anyone here remember that?

One positive from last night was the 30 aggressive minutes from PatBev. I thought he was slowed by his groin injury against the Pels, but he looked like himself last night. Obviously we need him to make a few more shots, but his defense on Morant was stellar all night...he had a lot to do with Ja only making 5 of 16 shots (0 for 7 on threes) and his 4 turnovers. The upcoming Warriors game can now be considered winnable with Green, Payton Jr. and Wiseman all out (and Klay clearly not back to being Klay yet) so we need a healthy PatBev dogging Curry all night. to steal a victory.

Sometimes, (in)consistency is what keeps bench players on the bench.
Memphis' bench shot 9-31 last night in a loss.
Wolves killer, John konchar, had 2 points and 1 reb.

Ha, that's just perfect. So Wolves-ian to have a guy like him actually murder us, then put up a dud against the next team. It's almost like we have a menu to choose from each night for opposing teams:
- The Mediocre Player Breakout Game
- 29% 3pt Shooter Busts out of Shooting Slump
- The Freakish Bench Player Line
- The Ed Malloy Special
and our most popular item.....The KAT Gets Frustrated and Loses his Cool game.
