I'm a big fan of Nerlens Noel, however, he is not worth $9M annually. He's worth perhaps half that right now.
Im a fan too.
Hes young with still a ton of upside. Teams have some money this offseason, so i think we'd have have to sweeten the offer. We still have dieng at almost 15 mill, you think noel would take 4~5?
What Cam said. I think there is a chance Noel doesn't even get 4 million.
I agree. Something is just not right with noel. It feels like he has beed red flagged around the league. Teams will only take a chance at him if its for minimum money. He has skills but he just couldnt stuck with a single team. Philly traded him for little. Dallas wont play him and cant wait to see him gone when he was there. Okc sign him for the minimum and while he did okay, interest in him seems very low unless its for min salary.
Agreed. There's something more than meets the eye with this guy. And what meets the eye hasn't been overly impressive.
It's worth noting that Noel was the one that opted out of his 2nd year of his cheap deal with OKC. His numbers in limited minutes actually look pretty good considering what you expect out of a player like him. The problem with Noel is that he seems like a modern player but he is a really skinny center and often at best just a decent rebounder. I'd guess it's worth a gamble for him to opt out and hope someone gives him more than the vet min. In fact it looks like based on RealGM's estimates of vet min salaries if he just signed another vet min deal he would actually make slightly more than what he opted out of. I think we all agree someone is gonna at least sign him to a vet min deal. Maybe someone goes crazy and gives him 4 million! That's more than double what he opted out of. He has to get all he can to try and make up for that contract he turned down from the Mavs...ouch.
Doogie reported that the Wolves have an interest in signing Ish Smith. It has to be Doogie reporting it, because the idea is so ridiculous. Smith is a career 30.6% 3-point shooter and 68% free throw shooter. He's a 6'0 PG so he certainly doesn't have size. And he's 30 years old so there's obviously no upside. If the Wolves sign Smith, I'll need to be admitted to a hospital to be treated for shock. Where does Doogie come up with stuff like this?

This entire comment made me laugh, Lip. Thank you for that.

And I agree wholeheartedly.
He has reported they have shown interest in TJ Mconnell also. My guess is they are doing some due diligence in case Tyus gets a larger offer than they are willing to pay. Personally I like either of those 2 guys as backups...if the price is right. I have no idea what PGs of various ilks are going to get this summer. I wouldn't want to pay either of those guys much.

Exactly, we currently don't have a back up PG. Its backup plan if tyus gets an offer. I don't like ish Smith but rather pay him 3 million a year than tyus 8 or 9.
You got to have backup plans and ish Smith is a good bargain backup plan
Someone posted that some of us will be all over Rosas if he doesn't pull off a deal that lands Russell. My response was that I won't be among them. As I said, I'll reserve my criticism for a bad deal and admire Rosas for at least trying to make a good one. The contract the Hornets just gave Rozier is the sort of move I'd be criticizing. My message to Rosas it this - don't make any dumb deals. If he pulls off a deal that lands Russell without giving up Okogie or Culver, then I'll be singing his praises. If not, but Rosas avoids making any bad deals, I won't criticize him and might even praise him for not being reckless and doing something dumb.
Giving Durant a 4-year max at the front end of him rehabbing from Achilles surgery strikes me as a bad move. Durant won't be able to play until the 2nd year of his 4-year deal at age 32. Based on what I've read, the odds are against Durant being the player he was when he returns and there's a not insignificant chance he won't be back at all.
I think Kyrie was the guy the Nets really wanted and that signing Durant was a key to getting Kyrie to sign. And it sounds like it was key to getting D. Jordan to join the Nets. If that's the case, I get it.
