He can be a really good player for us if he can hit those at a decent clip, if not he won't play. We gambled a bit on his contract, but so did he. Could be good value for us and he still makes top .01% money compared to the avg person.
He's not too far off. Made 43% of his 3s in Year 1 and 33% in Year 2. He made 38% in a decent sample of G-League games. So I don't think it's some delusional homer fan hope that he can become a decent catch and shoot 3-point shooter.
Agree but, I'm trying to not be too much of a homer cause every time I get too homerish I get let down it seems. I'll just say overal I feel like the gamble we took on him is pretty fair. He might suck but he might be good. Even keel guy here.
That dude's got one job and one job only this offseason. Shoot a million corner threes with a good shooting coach!
Seriously, if he could knock that shot down consistently, he would be so valuable because of his POA defense and ability to create turnovers. If not, ugh. Really hurts the offense.

He is getting paid like Josh Okogie before he started hitting 3's which Okogie was still a worthwhile player at that point for that cost. If Clark starts hitting 3's it's gonna be a hell of a deal. I think Clark is probably smart to sign this deal because of it goes bad he doesn't stick in the league. I think he also really likes it here and the Wolves clearly have some belief in him. They could have just offered him a 1 year deal or a multi-year deal with teams options. No they offered him a 3 year deal. I bet no other team was really looking to do that. Keep in mind that staying in the league for multiple years can have long term benefits for pension health insurance etc. since he was on a 2-way deal the year he sat out with injury I think he already has 3 years and now is likely to have 6. Not too shabby for a guy picked at the end of the 2nd round.

I think it was smart for both also. If he signed a one year and it went bad, then he's playing in China or Europe for 100K or whatever. Take the money and be smart, he can still cash in big down the road if things go well too and he has time to turn it around if it doesn't. So it's not like he can't be NBA richy rich also if he does tap into the upside.
I think it was a good move for JC and the Wolves.

I agree. Our front office has a mixed and as yet fairly unimpressive record identifying talent in the draft, although that could change if Beringer, TSJ, and/or Clark achieve their potential. But it strikes me that our front office folks have a very good eye for talent among players with NAW and Ayo as two prime examples. They’ve obviously seen Clark as well as TSJ up close in NBA games and in practice. The fact that the Wolves gave Clark a multi-year contract in spite of the log game at his position is a good sign. They seem to have confidence that he will develop a reliable 3-point shot and become the 3&D player they thought he could be when they drafted him.

Clark will likely be in the NBA for a long time. 3-point shooting isn't a binary trait, where you are either good at it or bad at it. There is a lot of in between and that's exactly the space Clark's 3-point shot resides through two seasons. Josh Okogie couldn't even crack 30% on 3's until his 5th season in the league! He actually was legit bad at them when he played for Minnesota.
I would also say that in grading Connelly on the Clark pick, it's already at least a B or B+ given where he was taken in the draft (#53). Clark has contributed valuable defense off the bench in spot minutes and has had a positive net rating in each of his first two seasons for a Western Conference playoff team. That's pretty solid considering where most late-ish 2nd rounders end up after a year or two, which is out of the league.

I'd give it an A even. 2nd round picks are pretty much low odd lotto tickets. You get some solid bench play from a mid/late 2nd rounder. Thats already a homerun. And we're a good team too. If he was on the Wizards or similar team he'd probably get a lot more playing time. Heck he could even start for a few teams probably.
Though they probably are shooting mostly for players with higher cielings, but still. 3&D is a valuable skillset.
