Brice Johnson at #33 on DX's mock draft. Really!?

Sabonis, Valentine, Allen, Johnson....Boy, it seems like there is a ton of value outside of the lottery. Milt, please call Danny Ainge and get something done!

Allen, Valentine and especially Sabonis are going in the lottery. You can hold me to that.

That's some major movement on DX's big board then, especially with very few 1st round prospects even playing anymore games at this point.

What do you think of Brice Johnson?

Those D-Ratings are skued like crazy IMO. Just look at VanFleet and Baker. Neither look the part of great individual defenders...but man, as a team, that Shockers team is tough to score against. Just an example where system wins out over this metric.

D-Rating is a great stat as a starting point to analyze someone's defense. I have seen more correlation between College D-Rating and NBA defensive stats, than any other metric. Its uncanny how all the great NBA defenders who came out of the draft since this stat was created had a low college D-Rating. I checked every NBA player that had a good Defensive RPM and the worst one was like 99 college D-Rating, which is still decent. Guys like KAT, AD, and Draymond Green had super low college D-Ratings. Even Klay who was known for his offense had a very good college D-Rating. There aren't many prospects with real low D-Ratings this year, so as a class I think its hard to find guys you can project as future shutdown defenders. The best defenders would include Deyonta Davis and Chinanu Onuaku for big men. As for guards, Gary Payton had a pretty good D-Rating last year and this year its still decent and he has some of the defensive skills and mentality of his old man (though he's smaller and not nearly the offensive player of his dad). I like Patrick McCaw as a defender mainly because he is Ricky Rubio like in the steals department, and he can pass and shoot. Dunn is a solid defender. Brown is a solid defender who could potentially be very good. Poeltl is an ok defender but not a great shot blocker. Nobody else excites me as a defender.

Have we brought up Tyler London? It has been years since we drafted anyone from Syracuse.

Positives
-Athletic stretch four
-Excellent shooter with deep range
-Explosive athlete
-Terrific shot blocker
-Can put the ball on the floor

Negatives
-Needs to add strength
-Inconsistent
