I still want to believe that the Cavs are taking 1 other piece and that this is the base trade that will be done if nothing else is worked out. Why would the Cavs have traded for those expirings if they weren't going to be taking back more salary?

Because Wiggins and Bennett is not quite enough salary for Love, they needed to add about 1.4 mil more, thus the non-guaranteed contracts. Sounds like Flip held firm on his demands. Which means there is absolutely no more room for Cleveland to take one of our expirings...

I don't like the deal. The protected first has no real value, so it really comes down to Bennett and Wiggins. While Wiggins is a great prospect, he is far from a sure thing. And while I actually like Bennett's talent, I just don't see him as a difference maker. To small to defend PF position, and way to slow to defend SF spot. Also, while I think he improves his shooting this year, he is obviously dead-set on being a long range chucker, which is not good. He needs to really develop his mid-range game and post play if he is ever going to become an effective rotation player.
I was desperately hoping we would get Thompson to fill in at PF as we know we would be getting a solid commodity that will defend and is FULLY capable of starting at the PF spot. Wiggins and Bennett simply doesn't feel like enough. Very disappointing. Well, this team may not win 10 games next season, so at least we are a lock for a top 3 pick.

I'm not a fan of Bennett either. Seems like Derrick Williams v.2.0 to me. A tweener who never measures up. Literally.
Wiggins is the carrot here. And, if we consider where the Wolves were just a couple months ago... I think landing the #1 pick in a seemingly loaded draft would have been championed by most.
I'm sick of Wolves Promise of Hope campaigns probably more than anybody else here. But it's really the team's only long-term play here. They have a guy who COULD develop into a legit franchise guy. They're rolling the dice that he does... but isn't that all you can really ask for in this situation?
It's better than trotting out there without at least one guy who has the potential to be a franchise savior.
[Note: As for Thompson, I think he's a bad fit offensively. The new NBA is about spacing. Imagine the Wolves with Rubio, Pekovic and Thompson (and unproven jumpshooters LaVine and Wiggins) trying to create spacing. Yikes.]

That's the sad part. Kinda like committing a crime and looking at life in prison, but end up only getting 15 years. Yea its great your not going away forever, but your still going to jail

I like all the rumors today, but understand they are just that...rumors. I especially like Barreiro's tweet that Bennett is currently not part of any offers for Thad Young...that never made sense to me. I also like the fact that there are reports that the Wolves and Philly continue to talk about Young, but that Hinkie is asking for too much (as he always does). I'm still hopeful that Flip will be able to balance his SF-heavy roster by telling 1 or 2 for Young.
I recognize that Bennett had a terrible rookie year, but he looked like a different guy to me in SL, and the announcers all talked about his upside. I originally wasn't on board with Flip selecting LaVine, having watched his struggles last year at UCLA. But posters here have convinced me that this is a home run swing by Flip with some promise of success, and I now like the pick a lot. I see Bennett as a continuation of Flip's strategy of swinging for the fences. Neither Bennett nor Young looks like a strong starting PF right now, but I'm comfortable with having both of them on our roster and letting the cream rise to the top. If we end up with both, I expect that Flip will start 7-year veteran Young at the start of the season, but that Bennett will find a way to work his way into the starting lineup. I think Young is the kind of guy who could provide enormous energy off the bench.
Things are looking up, but August 23 is still eons away...

Bennett's the next Karl Malone, Charles Barkley.

I really hope that was just smoke from Flip. Trade Bennett and some expirings to Philly for Young and let's get ready for the season. Essentially coming away from all of this with Wiggins, Young and that Miami 1st round pick is a big win, though I wish Waiters would have been involved, but it isn't that big of a deal that he isn't.
Edit: Getting Wiggins, Young and Bennett would also be a big win, though not my first preference. I'll stand behind Flip on this. He's been pretty damn good through all of this.

Flip probably didn't push for Waiters, because he thinks he's got his guy at SG in LaVine. Would've been nice if he would've however
