He's been fine. He's a big, strong PG that gets into the paint and creates space for himself to finish. Otherwise, there is nothing that really stands out about his game. Solid passer, solid defender, OK-ish outside shooter with time and space. I think if enough NBA PGs got hurt, he'd get a 10-day contract from someone just because he has an NBA body and NBA experience. But I'm not sure he's done enough in the G-League to change his overall stock much.

Kind of a disappointing outing for our boys back in action last night with the G-league team. The Wolves lost 143-132. I watched the first half and the defense was pretty pathetic. Garza did his usual offensive damage (31 points on only 19 shots), but was pretty helpless on defense against a team that featured a bunch of quick guards and wings and no true Center.

Moore Jr. was somewhat of a bright spot. He was more assertive offensively than I have ever seen him. He ended up with 24 points and 9 assists, hitting 4-10 from 3.

Minott didn't provide much resistance defensively and scored 17 points on 17 shots to go along with 5 rebounds in 26 minutes. Pretty weak performance for someone with so much raw potential.

With that said, if the Timberwolves wanted to protect or retain P.J. Dozier they could have done so before the season on a non-guaranteed deal. Minnesota had a free roster spot and one of their two-way spots available since pre-season. They instead decided to retain Nathan Knight on a two-year deal with an option on the second year and juggle A.J. Lawson and Matt Ryan on the two-way. Had they not done that, they potentially could have signed Dozier to the 15-man roster and kept Knight on another two-way deal, which may have been the better option. Ultimately, they rewarded Knight for his productivity in limited opportunities and the hard work he's put in since getting to Minnesota. I can't knock that.

I don't mind rewarding Knight with that last roster spot. But would have liked to add Dozier to our roster. Could have waived Forbes to make room for Dozier, but Forbes might have some trade value as the second piece to a somewhat bigger deal. And the Wolves certainly need help from behind the arc, although Forbes doesn't appear to helpful in that regard.

The G-league is a much better league than it used to he in terms of developing players whether it's for the team guys are playing for or for another organization. It's worth remembering that if Dozier doesn't stick with another NBA team's roster he will revert back to Iowa. I think teams and players have seen the value of the G-league and I expect/hope for it to expand over the next few years.

One of the reasons the Wolves probably didn't sign Dozier to an NBA deal was he was coming off an injury. Quite frankly I think he was ready to play basketball sooner than I expected and it didn't take much time for him to get rolling. Maybe the Wolves should have found a way to get him on their roster. It currently reflects well on the Iowa Wolves that Dozier played well there. Iowa probably has a pretty solid rep in that regard which is a good thing.

After a string of mediocre games, Minott came off the bench today for Iowa and scored 24 pts on 6-9 shooting, going 4-4 from 3; 8 rebs; and 3 assists in 24 minutes of action. Good to see.

The guy that has really been making noise in Iowa of late is DJ Carton. He's become a legit lead guard. He's averaging 24 points and 7 assists per game as their starting PG. He was Mudiay's backup during the "showcase" part of the season, but he stepped into the starter's role when Mudiay was out of commission for a few games and has never looked back. He probably had the dunk of the year today on his way to 30 points, 11 assists and a W for Iowa.

Carton had some plays that flashed earlier in the season and I did a little dive into learning more about him. He had a nice freshman season at Ohio state I remember him playing there and he transferred to Marquette. Anyway the question about him was shooting from 3 and whether or not he is a PG. Dude has some crazy dunks and athletic ability. What about his defense?

I'd have to watch him very carefully over a few games to get a better feel for his defense Monster. I mostly saw him in his backup role during the Showcase games. His is D-rating is awful. But that stat isn't just him but the other four guys he's with too. I also have to believe he isn't asked to do a ton on defense since he has taken over a lot of the scoring and playmaking responsibilities lately.

Both Minott and Moore, Jr. back in action with the Iowa squad earlier today. The pulled one out late on the road against Westchester. Moore Jr. had his usual quietly effective performance - he went 20, 5, and 8. The only real blemish on his game was 6 TOs.

Minott was pretty invisible in the first half, but was a terror defensively in the 2nd half. He ended up with 5 blocks and 2 steals to go along with 8 rebounds and 20 points, mostly off hustle plays and running the floor.

I see Jordy Tshimanga is back playing for Iowa again and he had a bunch of rebounds in a few minutes.
