We were up after three quarters.
Wiggins showed up and he played tremendous basketball. I was wondering if he could handle this moment, and he definitely did.
We're getting healthier. We're just waiting on Rubio and Muhammad now. Pek and Martin are back and working through some rust while still being productive.
Thad is playing good basketball. And while the majority of you have given up on him, he's still a good basketball player who can help any team. You just can't expect him to be the top scoring option or the best player on your team like he was for a long while.
We get to add another legitimate talent to this bunch. We've had our debates on Okafor, Johnson, Towns, Russell, etc. The thing is, though, any one of them is going to be a big addition to what we already have. Flip's building a powerhouse and I believe that. We just have to be patient.
PS: Lorenzo Brown played with heart tonight. I liked what he brought to the table. Moving the ball. Seemed like he knew what he was doing. He was alos pretty good defensively. I'd like to keep him going forward.
I liked Brown too, he needs to finish. Thad played great but he still doesn't have a position. He creates some nice matchup issues on the offensive side but is too slow to guard and out rebound 3s and to small to guard 4s. We were killed on the boards and need rebounding from our front court. Overall I am optimistic too. Flip seems to know talent, this draft is key. I can't see how we can't go big with the make up of our squad unless we make a trade or 3.

Wiggins seriously played great against Lebron. He just kept hitting really tough shots. Nothing you can do about that.
Thad played good offensively. Defensively he's still meh and his rebounding is still terrible. He's a 6th or 7th man. Probably a very good one, but nothing more than that. There are too many PFs & SFs that he can't matchup against in order to start.
He was never the best player on the team "for a long while". Wiggins has been the best for quite some time now, Gorgui has out played him and Bazz has outplayed him.
Brown looked pretty damn good tonight all things considered. Played basically the entire game in his 3rd game with the team this season. That's insane. I wonder if anyone has ever done anything close to that.

Brown is another example why I really trust Flip, solid second round pick, he might not stick on the Wolves (I hope he does for the rest of the year at least) but he can play in this league, and maybe he should be using rubio's shooting coach and maybe he will become a very good backup PG

Pretty amazing journey this team has been on with the point guard position this season. Rubio starts, Rubio gets hurt, LaVine starts, Williams gets hurt, Brewer as back-up, LaVine struggles, Williams starts, Hummel as back-up, LaVine continues to struggle, Daniels as back-up, Williams gets hurt, LaVine starts, Lorenzen Brown as backup, LaVine gets hurt, Lorenzen plays entire game......and the beat goes on.
What other team does this even happen to!? Only the Wolves....

Brown was really steady and we needed that from him tonight. But c'mon - he scored 1 point in 48 minutes.

Brown had a solid game. All I really want out of the guy is to be able to competently run an offense and defend (i.e. do no harm). So far he seems to be pretty solid in both areas. Anything offensively is gravy (he did improve his shooting while in the D-League, but we'll see if that translates to the next level).

Flip needs to sign a legitimate backup center. Yes, another one. I think we potentially have two, as Q would say, "super-subs" in Muhammad and Young.
You have to go big in the West and the Dieng/Pekovic lineup has been better than expected. BUT there are nights where starting Thad at the 4 is the right move. Tonight was one of them, ATL, GS, MIA, LAC, etc. Basically against perimeter oriented bigs, Young is the guy that needs to start at PF. Against MEM, OKC, CHI, SAS, etc. Dieng is the guy.
So, assuming we aren't tops in the lottery and draft night trades aren't included, Johnson is still my guy. I would have LOVED seeing LeBron try to bully Stanley like he did with Wiggins at times. 245 lbs is the same no matter the age. And it would have allowed Wiggins to not be Superman in trying to carry the offense and guard the best player in the world.
Anyways, re-sign Mo. Sign a serviceable backup center. Feed Muhammad and Young bulk minutes off the bench at SG/SF and SF/PF.
Rubio/Wiggins/Johnson/Dieng/Pekovic with Williams/Martin/Muhammad/Young getting the majority of the bench minutes. I'd be down for that.

Interesting strategic decision by Flip to not go with the Dieng/Pek pairing. We paid for it dearly on the boards. On the other hand, I'm not sure how well Dieng does floating outside on the perimeter guarding Love. Overall, we hung with them until they absolutely clamped down defensively in the 4th and LeBron took over. Not sure any rotation change would have really affected the outcome.,,,,

They had almost as many offensive rebounds as we had defensive rebounds. That means every one of their shots was a toss up. We need a real 4 to pair with Pek, not another 5. So neither Dieng nor Thad are true 4s but they are the answer we need at that position? They are what we are using because we have no other choice. Tonight Thad was great on offense but the most overwhelming stat was how badly we were out rebounded. Not even close. We need a true 4 and possibly a 2 to round out roster, not a 3rd center.

Not a bad plan, but what's more likely to happen is that Bjelica replaces Young in your scenario, as Young is either going to get traded or opt out (that's my guess). I'd also be disappointed if we re-signed Williams. He can't defend anyone. I'm not sure if Lorenzen Brown is the right guy either, but he at least seems to provide some defensive resistance out there.
I've said this a bunch of times, but we have so many needs, I can convince myself that any of the top 4 or 5 guys can help plug a hole for us:
1. We need another big man - Okafor, Towns
2. We need another shooter - Russell
3. We need another defender - Johnson
4. We need another ball handler/playmaker - Russell, Mudiay
I realize some of these picks may force Flip to make some tough decisions on other young guys already on the roster, but oh well, too bad. Let them compete for playing time.
