I can think of amare, was good for a year

LeBron

With both the Heat and the Cavs.

Heat were a 5 seed before LBJ joined.

The only reason I asked is first I couldn't think of names of players that fit it. And we talk about Milsap (who I would love) but NBA history suggests max players don't switch teams to lotto teams

To be fair we are in a unique position ourselves, regardless of how anyone views Thibs now it was surreal watching the NBA including LA and New York on standstill patiently waiting while a perennial playoff missing franchise gets it's pick of the coaching litter. Even comments we hear now about how jealous NBA executives are over our young talent, Milsap has to hear that if he doesn't re-sign with teh Hawks

I think it's fair to say that Milsap is a long shot. That doesn't mean we don't make a run at him or try to sell him on our vision, but I agree with Kekgeek's point.

That's another reason why this season was such a massive disappointment. Had we won more games and made the playoffs, our chances at a big free agent like Milsap would be even better. It's tough to climb out of the hole we've dug ourselves over the years.

Exactly, and if the team is this gun shy about cap space then they should never tout it and to

I completely disagree.

If KAT, Wiggins and LaVine want to be paid the max then they need to get this team to the playoffs without needing a 4th max player. They are good enough and if it comes to them leaving because we're not making playoffs or contending then they need to take a good hard look at themselves.

In saying that I have no doubt they will lead this team to great things.

I agree that Glen has to dig into his pockets and utilise cap space, but this offseason isn't the time to sign a player to the max. We need to lock up at least two of the big 3 before we consider signing someone else to a max contract.

I am taking out of both sides of my mouth but this is the last chance the wolves could sign a player to a max that is not currently on the roster

I said many moons ago I am a big fan at going after Ibaka. But I am not a fan of throwing a max contract at him. I have no doubt we will have to overpay to get a decent FA or two in here, but there has to be some financial sensibility. There will be many opportunities to improve. I have no idea if Thibs would view Ibaka's fit on this team as favorably as I do. And even if he does, if Ibaka costs too much, then move on to Plan B, etc.

I think the best bet is to do nothing and shoot for 35 - 38 wins while skirting with the salary cap minimum. Again.

Progress! We have the three best young players in the NBA though!

This summer and next are the last two we will have any cap space to sign anyone. After that we will have to make a trade to add anyone significant to the roster. The whole reason KD could go to GS was because Steph was on a sub max and Klay and Draymond were on mini-maxes under the old CBA. Well Steph and Durant are both up this summer so they will have nothing left for free agents for pretty much until their run is over and they might even have to pick between Klay and Draymond when that time comes. That's our boat right now with Towns, Wiggins and Zach being on rookie deals. Wiggins and Zach get paid next off season which are huge increases and Towns the summer after. This is the window. 2 years. After that there is no money to sign anyone over the MLE. The cap space you are saving is just going to be redistributed to our current players so you are all in on those 3 being good enough to be a contender without a ton of help. I frankly haven't seen enough from the 3 of them playing together to be that confident those 3 will take us to the top. That means we have to use this window now to sign help and then deal with the cap implications when we have to cross that bridge because in 2 years we won't have the ability to add the help they might end up needing. I don't get putting all the eggs in one basket that involves all 3 guys needing to become all-stars for us to win.

So who are we gonna sign? It seems like most people on this board think the best player we can get is Millsap or Ibaka. That's no Durant or Bosh type guy and those guys are gonna get plenty of money and probably for 4 years unless they have opt out deals or whatever. What has been pretty amazing is how the Cavs have been able to add talent to their roster while being way over the cap. either way the Wolves go whether paying some guys this summer or holding off there can be chances to improve the roster if you make good moves, be creative and opportunistic.

It will be interesting to see if the below is actually true. If he isn't looking to get a bunch of money yeah I would consider signing him. He may be a heck of a 6th man even if he cant hit 3's. Really he is basically a Combo guard in my mind.

-Rose, who has a history of serious knee injuries, said in late March that he'd prioritize winning over money as a free agent.

"Not even thinking money. I've got more than enough money saved. If I stopped playing basketball now, I'll be all right," Rose told reporters in Utah on Wednesday night. "I want to win. I want to be happy and feel at peace with myself wherever I'm at. But being at the negotiating table, you never know. I'm not going to negotiate with people where money is the No. 1 thing I'm asking for. I want to win."

EDIT: I should clarify I highly doubt Rose ends up with the Wolves.
