He couldn't successfully recruit his best friend to play basketball with him. Maybe getting rid of KAT isn't gonna be the worst thing we could do down the line.
Whoa. When was it kat's obligation to recruit free agents? You are missing the point here. We never had cap space to begin with! It was on rosas to make room for us to get dlo. Dlo gave us a meeting because of kat. It isnt towns fault for rosas not being able to work out a deal in time.
Enough of the deals were line up already excuse. If were lined up then it would have beed done as soon as possible. What is the incentive for us to wait?
My speculation is that we were always the backup plan of other teams. Maybe plan b or c. So whatever deal rosas lined up were not priority for another team. Why should russel wait for a 30-50% chance of a deal happening when the warriors come in late with guaranteed deal pushing tru with the money he wants? No one will feel sorry for dlo if we couldn't pull a trigger and he was left with having to take what is left in the market. So he took the guaranteed route with a contending team.
Do any research on what went down and you'd know you're just wrong. Everybody on Twitter is saying everything was done and D Lo at the end of the day chose them over us. Rosas isn't gonna announce and actually make a trade without Russell's commitment and he didn't get it at the end of the day. And yes KAT should take some responsibility on this because all the top players need to be able to recruit in this league. It's the whole reason KD went to GS and why he's now going to Brooklyn. If KAT can't recruit his own best friend successfully you can kiss any top tier FA's goodbye. Your speculation is contrary to all the reporting. I'd take Jon K's reporting over your speculation any day of the week.
So if what is being said on twitter is true 100% then we never had a commitment from dlo and rosas was taken for a ride. Spin it anyway but it just wasnt a good look for rosas.
Also, blaming kat for this from your part look stupid. If it were that easy to recruit your best friend to play with you in the nba then we would have seen more superteams already. Durant went to the warriors and nets because they have guaranteed max money cap space to begin with! Money is more important than friendship in the Nba. Durant wont sign with the nets if they dont have a max slot no matter the amount of recruiting from kyrie. We dont have max money. Rosas didnt make the max slot available before he was seeking commitment from a player. A deal that we know nothing about.
What are you even talking about with recruiting? Do you follow the NBA at all? It literally has been team up culture for the last decade. USA basketball has been the most important recruiting tool of the last 15 years. Lebron went to Miami to play with his friends Wade and Bosh. KD and Kyrie were hanging out all weekend long at All-Star weekend talking about this move. There will always be teams who have or can make multiple max slots. You just saw multiple teams do it this summer alone. Durant would have joined Kyrie on the Knicks if the Nets didn't have the space. PG stayed in OKC because of Westbrook. How do you think Clutch AD ended up forcing his way to Clutch Lebron in LA? Do you think it's a coincidence Kyrie joined Roc nation with KD on his way to Brooklyn when KD was like the second guy to sign with them? Players are teaming up left and right and KAT has no responsibility in not being able to recruit his "brother" to play with him here? Get outta here.
And in the latest athletic piece, we didn't have a full commitment from Russell after the meeting hence why we didn't make any trades to clear the space. You don't make those deals without a commitment from him.
Khans you are completely ignoring the most important thing and that is we dont have the space to sign anyone and it was in rosas to make that space! Paul stay in okc because they can sign him for the most money. Lebron team up with wade and bosh because the heat have cap space that summer! Lebron and ad team up because the lakers have space and young players and assets to give up! Heck even your own example cites the fact that kyrie Nd durAnt team up only if a team has enough space for them both! Towns can recruit all he wants but if we dont have money then nothing will happen. Nba players in their prime will always chase the money. Again, we dint have the money!
The issue was never if towns was a good recruiter but whether rosas had the space to be able to sign any max player realistically. Stick to that khans.
Our back and forth started because you tried to put blame on towns for this falling apart when we didnt have the cap space to begin with which is just stupid and just hating.
You don't make the space before you get a full commitment. Why is that so hard to understand? We didn't get the full commitment so we didn't execute any trades. You seem to be hung up on the fact that he isn't here now because we didn't make the space when everything being reported is we lost the recruiting battle and it has nothing to do with not already having made deals. THE SPACE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSSELL NOT BEING ON THE TEAM TODAY. That is what is being reported. Why do you continue to use your own speculation on the situation as the truth when we have reporting from multiple people saying the space didn't matter?
Let me give you the benefit of the doubt. But why are you blaming and shading towns for this? Isnt that stupid and just hating on your part?
I'm saying he needs to take some blame for this. He was our number 1 recruiter for this deal to happen and it fell through so why does he come out of this with 0 blame. His best friend just picked a different team after KAT spent all day Sunday trying to get him to come here. We lost a recruiting battle which falls on both Rosas and the player who spent all offseason trying to recruit him to come here. I don't get why that's stupid. If you recruited your buddy to work with you and the interviews all went well and your boss wants to hire them and then he ditches you at the last minute for greener pastures do you think you have no responsibility in that outcome? To me that says you didn't do enough to get the job done.
This is why i don't recommend friends whenever my company has an opening.
Kat doesnt own dlo, so he can't force him to do something he doesn't want to do.
This isn't kats fault, but he does deserve some blame for selling hope wrapped up in a packaging of a sure thing.
Kat owes you an apology because your feelings got hurt because we didn't get Russell??!! Cmon. Rubism at its finest. Take a breath

Lol if you go that out of my post then you clearly are the rube. My feelings didn't get hurt that we didn't get Russell. I'm also not gonna sit in a chair surrounded by flames saying this is fine when our star player couldn't even help us land his best friend to play for us.

We would have approx. 40 mill coming off the books next year (also Gordon and tucker could of had value) and 11 1st round picks total in the next 7 years.
I get thibs had to save his job but this was obviously the best move and we only have Cov and Culver to show for it
Wait. I don't remember Tucker and Gordon being part of that deal...
So we're blaming players now for being bad recruiters...
ewww...
I'm not sold on a league where how well a player recruits his friends is THAT important to a franchise. Sadly, this is where we are... and more and more people are lapping it up. Next season, let's say KAT goes for 29/14/5 with 54/42/86 splits... and gets blocked from an All NBA team in favor of a 4th option for a super team while being dismissed as a "loser"... at least we'll know it's because he's a loser as a recruiter.

Pretty sure it was just 4 picks spread out over the course of many years

Yeah. That's what I thought, too.
And I wasn't for that sort of trade. Draft picks don't excite me at this point... 30 years is enough.

Ditto. Am I really supposed to get excited about some mid-late round draft picks with a franchise that has nearly ZERO success in even drafting in the top 5? Pass

My bad. I expected KAT to take some responsibility for our failure to get Russell given he spent all day yesterday with him trying to convince him to come to MN. Turns out KAT has never done anything wrong. I forgot that he can't be accountable for anything as long as he scores points and grabs rebounds. It's worked out beautifully for us so far just pampering him and crowning him the next big thing in the game. I should just be polite and get back in my chair. This is fine. Literally all of the other top players in the league are manipulating the system to get where they want and to play with who they want, but god forbid our superstar be expected to do the same thing for us. Nope. In MN we're just happy to have him and it's up to everyone else to make it work around him.
We're literally in the player empowerment era and yet somehow only in MN it's all on the front office and the players get by scot free as if they have no power in any of this.
Towns recruited a guy nobody thought we evenven had a chance at a few days ago. Supposedly we had something lined up to make it happen. Reminder the Wolves are one of the worst NBA franchises in the league over their 30 or so years. Come play with your best friend a budding star and have the ball alot. We have covington and some young guys with some promise and a guy that makes a ton of money but isn't worth it.
Or...Come play with 3 likely HOF players for a proven championship level coach and organization that's really great..OH yeah an they play in California in a brand new arena.
Lets be freaking realistic here. Russell come to the Wolves he is HOPING the Wolves make the playoffs and be part of a team that doesn't suck balls anymore OR he can go to a team that is and built a contender all while getting a max salary. Unless he REALLY wanted to play with Towns (I'm guessing he did) that's a terrific opportunity. Its kind of a no-brainer. Come on ragging on Towns for his recruiting when he was probably the only reason we even had a chance? That seems unfair to me and I haven't been above calling out stuff that I think Towns has sucked at in the past.
