Wiggins took one shot in the second half. He must have been passing a lot when he wasn't getting to the line.

Is there any coincidence that we did much better in the second half when he took less shots. I think his field goal percentage was below 30%.

Here's the story I get from tonight's box score. First, Thibs used a 10-man rotation tonight. I like that. Second, there some bright spots and some familiar themes:

THE BRIGHT SPOTS:

1. Towns' performance further confirmed that he is this team's one great player in the making with 20 points, 10 boards, 2 blocks and 0 turnovers in 27 minutes.

2. Belly's numbers were impressive. He had 14 points, hitting 4 of 9 from the field and 2-5 from behind the arc. He also had 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

3. K. Dunn put up some nice numbers with 7 assists and 2 steals in 24 minutes. Nice debut by our rookie.

4. I like that Aldrich ended up with 6. Boards and 2 blocks in 21 minutes. That's what we need from him.'

5. Rush's numbers suggest he'll be a major positive contributor to this team. He ended up with 11 points, shooting 4-6 from the field and 3-5 from behind the arc. He also added 3 boards in 22 minutes.

FAMILIAR THEMES:

1. Wiggins' performance was typical Wiggins with 19 points primarily from the line where he went 13-16 while hitting only 3 of his 11 FG attempts and coming up with only 2 boards and 0 assists in 28 minutes. We'll see what happens as the preseason and season progress, but the first glimpse at Wiggins entering his third season did nothing to suggest he's taken his game to any sort of new level.

2. Dieng seemed fairly solid with 8 boards and 1 block in 22 minutes.

3. Ricky was Ricky with 9 points on 2-5 shooting to go with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. He hit his one 3-point attempt and all 4 of his free throws. Not a standout performance but solid within Rick's normal range.

He did shoot 10 FTS in the third quarter. I will not take anything away from this game because look at last year we were dog shit in the pre season and started 8-8

Overall we won because nobody got hurt!

Towns shot 30% in the first half too. Towns started hitting in the second half and wiggins got to the line. Great on each of them for adjusting and doing what it takes to win. Great players do that.

Mario Chalmers is sitting courtside at the Heat/Wolves game supporting fellow Jayhawks Andrew Wiggins, Brandon Rush, and Cole Aldrich.

I have always thought Chalmers was underrated and wouldn't mind if we picked him up for our 15th roster spot after we buy out Pek.

One thing certain is that the rotation is pretty much set. The 10 guys that play tonight are the 10 that will play in actual games. We all like the startting 5 since late last season and the 2nd unit is a very good combination.

It's kind of a bummer there wasn't burn for Tyus last night. He really looked great in summer league. I know, I know how that sentence sounds. But still. He could be a solid to good backup PG. He is still young yet. I hope he can handle getting relatively few minutes this year and keep his eye on a time in the future when he could be the backup PG for this team. That'll be his role wherever he ends up, so it might as well be at home with the team that drafted him. I think he has a future.

Only preseason, but preseason NBA looks much more like regular season than football and baseball...players go hard and try to win, and coaches coach somewhat similar to how they coach regular season (just read Youngblood's tweets about Thibs to get an idea how much he wanted to win). So, absent a stinker of a second quarter, this is a very satisfying debut for the Thibs era. None of us saw how they actually looked, but I'd like to think Thibs et al made some adjustments at halftime that turned this around...something that Flip and Sam seldom did. Very encouraging.

Let's talk about Wig. I agree with the posters who are disappointed with his peripherals in the box score. But he's a scorer, and 19 points on only 11 shots made him our most efficient scorer (along with Ricky and Rush on less volume)...just what we need him to be. I am his biggest critic with respect to rebounding and 2 in 28 minutes is not very good. But we outrebounded Miami 51-42, so maybe we have enough rebounding without our SFs helping out much (Bazz also only had 2 defensive rebounds).

Most of us are very excited about this bench, and their debut did nothing to dampen it. They played half of the game, and everyone on the team (except Cole who was at 0) had a positive +/-...remarkable balance in just a 9-point win. Most impressively, the bench was 7-14 on threes...and that was critical in winning this game. And while his stats were not as good as Ricky's, you can't overlook the fact that this was Dunn's first 24 minutes in the NBA at PG...you have to be impressed with his 7 assists and 2 steals.

I'm feeling quite good about this first win.

Yep, nice adjustment thibs. Good to see rush and Dunn have nice debuts for us as well.
