Ricky is out
Re: Ricky is out
Wiggins seems to be disappointing most people here, so we should just trade Wiggins for a top-notch PG!

Exactly, Rubio had surgery back in April! 6 months ago and he still isn't back. How people are still trying to say this is no big deal is beyond me.
He had surgery on his ankle which is healed (based on what I saw in 1st practice). He's been held out the last few games due to a quad strain. Different problem. Minor problem. There really is no need to panic. Honest. He's scheduled to play on Friday.
won't play Friday btw

Re: Ricky is out
Alex, It does account for games that Rubio missed, but that doesn't fully explain the difference. For example, in 2012-13, when Rubio missed 35 games and started only 47 (he came off the bench for the other 10 he played in), his net On/Off was basically zero, meaning he didn't "benefit" from having an inferior PG start in his place.
Then if you look at 2013-14, where he played all 82 games, he had a net On/Off of +12.6, which is his career best. Shouldn't it have been the opposite based on your theory? Now you might say that he benefited from playing with Love and Pek, which is true. But guess what? They had lower net On/Offs than he did that year, so whose impact was felt the most when he was on the floor? Rubio.
So again, I fail to see how Rubio "holds back" a team with his play on the court. All evidence points to him making the whole greater than the sum of the parts.

Where did you hear that, alex? I've been hearing for several days that he is scheduled to participate fully in practices Friday and Saturday, and be ready for the game Sunday. But it sounds like you have an update to the contrary...disappointing, if true.

Re: Ricky is out
The PG position has changed, but instead of just talking about PG's lets open the discussion up to primary ball handlers because that is what Ricky is and there are guys like Beverly who play PG, but aren't their team's primary ball handler. How many good teams have a primary ball handler who is allergic to scoring the basketball? Rondo, Ricky and Payton are the only 3 starters in the entire league I could find who are primary ball handlers who can't score. How have their teams been doing in recent years? Rondo managed to submarine one of the best offenses in the league. It's just a model that doesn't work any more. So if he doesn't increase his ability to score significantly he can't stay if we hope to attain any high level of success. You just can't have a primary ball handler be zero threat to score.
PnR and drive penetration are still king when it comes to NBA offenses and they just don't work the way they are supposed to if the ball handler can't score. Maybe Lavine can be the primary ball handler in crunch time in the future so we can keep Ricky in the game as a spot up shooter and good defensive PG, but we'll pay a steep price offensively if he is the primary ball handler. Some trends in the league just can't be bucked. Just like 3pt shooting and rim protection, primary ball handlers need to be able to score the ball in today's game to be successful.
