Here is how I would play it out. I wouldn't dump JJ just to dump him. I wouldn't worry about him being a problem. If I was Flip I would sit him down at the start of camp and tell him he is the backup to Rubio on this team and it is his job to lose to Willaims. Best player gets it. I need you to compete and be a mentor to Lavine, Wiggins, and Shabazz. I will do what is best for the team and also help you get another contract. We can look at options for better opportunities as the season goes on. Keep your chin up and stay positive and everything will workout for you.

Good take on JJ. I'll add that, based on what I've heard, Flip isn't set on keeping JJ. In other words, Flip's not a big JJ guy. It's just Flip's policy of not trading guys for less than what Flip sees as the player's trade value. In other words, Flip won't trade JJ just to get rid of him. My point is that I don't think keeping him would be a bad thing because I think JJ can help this team in a true back up role and I trust Flip's ability to manage him.

With that said, I could see Flip dealing him and I could also see the Wolves buying him out if he needs the roster spot to sign someone he considers significant,y better.

Let's say the roster on opening night is this (and everyone is healthy):

PG: Rubio, Mo, JJ

SG: Martin, Bud, LaVine

SF: Brewer, Wiggins, Shabazz

PF: Bennett, Young, Hummel

C: Pek, Dieng, Turiaf

Which three are in street clothes for the opener? I think Turiaf needs to dress because Pek is injury prone and none of the PF's can play center (leaving Dieng as potentially the only center). So for me, the three guys sitting out the first night are Hummel, JJ and LaVine. Or if Turiaf sits, LaVine becomes the third PG and SG. . But in any case, I don't see JJ cracking the top 12 if everyone is healthy. And I think he quickly becomes a locker room problem if he's not even dressing. I'd rather have GR3 on the roster, both because of his long-term potential and his comfort level (compared to JJ) to sitting out.

Not sure if that would be a good idea. I remember several times when Adleman pulled him when he was stinking it up, and JJ would throw a huge hissy fit. JJ just seemed to develop a big time attitude. JJ's role is a spark guy off the bench for 10-15 min a game. If he's hot great, if he's not sit him. Not only will the Wolves not need that with their set up and they have Mo, I can't really remember any JJ moments where he won us a game like in years past. I doubt Flip buys him out either. I don't see Glen swallowing 4.5 mil for the hell of it

JAF's insider connections will be put to the test this weekend. He also said the announcement *might* be delayed until Monday:

Not Shved
It's Barea. And the hold up is that Philly is concerned that the protection on the Miami pick might make it a 2016 instead of a 2015. We may need to sweeten a bit.

And JJ is an expiring.

Dunno who that is but I believe Woj already confirmed the deal. He's as close to fact as you can get

This seems highly unlikely. Shved is more valuable (or less of a negative) to the Sixers than JJ for a couple reasons.

1. He is young with some talent so hey maybe they get a guy that turns things around. Unlikely? Sure but hey why not if they have to take someone back why not take back a young guy like Shved?

2. He makes over a million less than JJ. Sixers love them some cap space and I think one of the assets in this deal for them is that they take back less salary than they send out.

JJ's value would be if they played him he played well and they were able to unload him for a random 2nd rounder. I just don't see that happening with the Sixers who have plenty of guards they want to get minutes the way it is.

Ahh, but later in the season if a contending team needs a backup guard, who's of more value, Shved or JJ?

I can see reasons for going for either way. The universe says it's Shved. JAF says Barea. We should find out soon enough.

Lol Barea as a mentor? That doesn't sound like a good idea at all. He's selfish on the court. I think it'd be fair to assume he's selfish off the court as well. Not the guy I want LaVine to learn from.

If this is what the roster actually looks like, then Hummel, Muhammad and Barea can get the DNPs. Assuming Barea does get traded, because I believe he shouldn't be here any longer, then Hummel, Robinson III and Muhammad or Turiaf will sit out.

I think I'll go with what Woj already reported/confirmed instead of your guy JAF. Woj and Stein are as money as it gets in this area of reporting.

If Philly (or JAF) is worried about the protection, then they think Miami isn't a playoff team in the East this year, which I don't see after the Paul George injury. Even if Wade can only play 50 games, they'll probably make it. The Pacers off-season basically guaranteed that much. That first rounder will be for 2015. No need for Minnesota to sweeten the offer.

This is IMO an interesting, fairly well thought out and pretty detailed writeup on the trade from a Sixers view and it makes a case with some good points for Shved being a worthwhile player to get which actually makes some sense. I wouldn't go quite as far as this writer but it would be interesting to see Shved get some consistant minutes and see what he does. For the Sixers its not going to hurt anything.
