Bolmaro waived

Utah waives Bolmaro. He had some good games in the G League, but never showed much in the NBA. I remember a few on this board thought it was a good pick and a feather in the cap for Rosas, though I think it ultimately wasn't a good pick. Better players drafted after Bolmaro include Desmond Bane, Jaden McDaniels, Tre Jones, Immanuel Quickley, Payton Pritchard and Isaiah Joe. Others still in league drafted later include Xavier Tillman, Nick Richards and Paul Reed.

Draft is always a crapshoot. We as Wolves Fans know that better than anyone. What sucks is one of the few times we got it right (Kessler) we end up trading (insert crying emoji)

I think the poor drafting teams throw that cliched expression "crapshoot" around more often. No franchise bats 100%, but some are consistently higher than others, so talent evaluation still matters a lot.

I was hoping for Saddiq Bey but am happier with McDaniels. Imagine if Boston had held onto Bane.

I don't know about that...when the draft comes around, there are literally dozens of prospect ranking lists that come out from different sources. Generally, they all show the same mix of guys that will be drafted in round one. Sure, the exact rankings will differ slightly. But if you "google" mock drafts from 2020, you'll find Bolmaro was listed often in the top 35 players. I believe the consensus was he would go late first or early second and that's exactly were we took him. Here's one of many sources that can be found from pre-draft 2020: https://nbadraftroom.com/leandro-bolmaro/
To say they should have grabbed another guy who turned out better is using the obvious benefit of hindsight. It's more interesting (at least for me) to go back and look at what this board was saying around those times. Here's a refresher:

There was a whole lot of James Wiseman love back then. Only 3 out of 18 people that responded to the poll would have drafted Edwards. 8 people wanted Wiseman and 7 wanted to trade down. I'm not posting this to embarrass or pick on anyone. I'm posting it because it sort of reinforces my point...the draft is a friggin' crapshoot. Only three people on here wanted Anthony Edwards....

It was an interesting draft, and I think the lesson learned was "never waste a very high draft pick on a player you really haven't had a chance to evaluate". I didn't want Ball because I just didn't understand the level of competition he was playing against overseas...I was wrong, because he has been very good. And I really wanted to stay away from Wiseman because the only video I could see on him showed him dunking against guys who were 6'7"...there was no body of evidence to demonstrate that he could be a good NBA player. I was right on that one. Of course his injuries have hurt him, but he really hasn't been very good when he's been healthy either. In contrast, we had hours of video of Ant playing against top D1 talent. Anyone could see his flaws, but his athleticism and upside were obvious. Good job by Rosas in taking the right choice (although a trade down for Halliburton would have been very good too provided we got something valuable in return).

Of course there are better scouts out there than others. I think there is a great degree of luck to it as well. If Milwaukee was the only team that knew Giannis was going to be a superstar, it would have done everything in it's power to move up even further to make sure they got him. Bane was passed on 29 times at the draft, Your telling me Memphis is the only scouting team that saw something in him? Every single Minnesota fan was screaming for Minnesota to draft Curry or Derozan when we drafted Flynn. It didn't take a good front office or scouting to tell them what all of saw prior to the draft.
