Mo Williams can shoot a team to an unexpected victory. Or, his misses on an off night combined with his unimpressive defense can take a team right out of a win. He's scoring 12.5 a game for Minnesota but is shooting just 39.9 percent this season overall. To be fair he is doing a better job as a distributor. He'd make a decent reserve on a quality team.

And he's available.

While logic might dictate that much of the Timberwolves roster would be available in a deal, that is not the case reports Jon Krawczynski of the AP.

The Cavaliers and Clippers are both potential contenders looking for depth at the point guard spot behind their All-Star players. Williams would be an upgrade, at least on offense, over the guys they are using. Miami is not a contender but they have been looking for help at the point guard spot since LeBron James came to that city, let alone now.

But is anyone going to give up anything of value, really?

Not today, but as the trade deadline gets closer it's something to monitor.

It should be Flip's primary mission by the Feb. trade deadline to trade Mo and Thad.

I have no doubt that Mo has value to a contending team as a veteran perimeter shooter off the bench who can also distribute the ball a bit. He's a low price expiring contract to boot. I can see getting an equal expiring deal or perhaps someone with a year left along with a protected 1st in return in exchange for Mo and a 2nd rounder.

Thad should also have reasonable trade value to a contending team, although his substantial opt-in hurts his value. A team like the Thunder should have some interest in getting him in exchange for Perkins and a protected 1st or a 2nd rounder.

By protected first, I mean a top 20 protected - maybe top 23 protected.

Yeah, I don't think the bar has to be set too high to trade Mo. His contract expires after this year and he won't be coming back. With LoBrow on board now and Rubio coming back, we can probably afford to trade Mo for a 2nd rounder or two. I can't see anyone giving up a first for him, even though I'm sure that will be Flip's original asking price.

Q - I agree that we can't count on getting more than one or two 2nd rounder for Mo. And I'd be ok with that. But I could see some chance of getting a top 23 protected first.

Can't we just trade Mo for cash considerations straight up since that's what we're gonna do with the 2nd rounder we'll get back for him anyway?
