Big Man Acquisition Prediction Thread

In my last thread, the question was which big do you think the Wolves SHOULD get. This thread is devoted solely to getting your predictions on who you think the Wolves WILL ultimately sign. So here goes. Which of the following do you believe the Wolves will sign/trade for yet this summer?

There's a very strong possibility that the Wolves come out of free agency with just Jarred Vanderbilt and Jordan McLaughlin.

In the other poll, my answer was WCS. He's not a great choice, but I see him as the best option for the Wolves right now. He give us a defensive vet next to KAT and I think he'd had good chemistry with KAT as well. In addition, he's be cheap. Meanwhile, we have Vanderbilt who I still believe will develop into a very good defensive big.

In this poll, my vote went to Markkanen. I don't think Rosas will let the summer slip by without making a significant move and it's already been reported that Rosas is interested in Markkanen. Cam gave some good reasons why Markkanen wouldn't be a good acquisition for the Wolves under current circumstances. I don't disagree with any of those reasons, but I'd still prefer not to take on another poor defender for a significant contract.

I'm curious as to why we haven't heard anything lately about Gersson having interest in Myles Turner.

My guess on that front would be that Gersson Rosas hasn't shown any indication that he'll move Jaden McDaniels in a package for anything less than a star player, and while Myles Turner is an above average contributor he's far from a star player. It's a game of who bends to whose will, or more likely that a trade doesn't transpire this off-season. The Pacers are certainly asking for McDaniels and the Wolves certainly aren't trading him for Turner. We're at a stalemate in negotiations.

This is probably where Rosas' smartest guy in the room complex is valuable in that his late-round gem in McDaniels is wanted around the league and he knows it so he will only deal him as part of a huge return. Otherwise I think Rosas is content with keeping McDaniels and seeing what kind of player he becomes.

Good analysis, Cam. I agree. I would be mightily unhappy if we gave up McDaniels for Myles Turner. I'm guessing we'd have to give up McDaniels and Beasley for Turner. I'm a Turner fan, but that's too much. I like McDaniels' upside too much to give him up for Turner.

I like McDaniels' upside as a three-and-D wing with size too much to include him in that deal as well. I'm also not entirely sold that giving up Malik Beasley for Myles Turner would be a good decision. Perimeter shooting is only getting more and more important and historically the Wolves have been terrible at acquiring shooters that produce. While Turner would be a significant addition to the roster, I'm not sure he's fixing everything that's wrong with this team defensively. Meanwhile, without Beasley this team takes a big step back in their potency from three. At this point, Minnesota should just keep accumulating assets, outscoring opponents, and trade for fit at a later time.

That's a good take, Cam. I share your reluctance to part with Beasley for Turner as well. He's our only elite 3-point shooter other than KAT. I also like his rebound and athleticism and I like that he has some dog in him - something the Wolves have been lacking.

So I think I'm coming around to your thinking that, at this point, the Wolves should simply accumulate more talent and try to outscore opponents until an opportunity develops down the road for significant defensive improvement. Meanwhile, McDaniels, Vanderbilt and Okogie/Culver can help defensively. Ant clearly has the physical ability to be a really good defender. KAT showed marked improvement defensively last season. And DLO certainly has the ability to be a passable defender if he commits to it.

1. But okogie and culver are terrible on offense. Without big improvement culver might not see the floor. Putting either of them with Vanderbilt or even McDaniels makes the wolves very bad offensively.

2. Edwards was a terrible defender. It's not realistic to expect him to improve THAT much so quickly... especially if he's a bigger offensive weapon.

3. There's NOTHING that indicates Russell will put in consistent effort. It's been many years now and he has his big contract.

Not sure which of these acquisitions threads to put this in but is there a reasonably available guy that you would be willing to use Bolmaro as a trade asset to acquire? Honestly I can't think of anyone and it's not because I believe so strongly in Bolmaro although I do value him and like him quite a bit.

For some of the lesser guys even WCS I tend to think we won't see a move until they know what happens with Vanderbilt and therefore know how much money they can utilize to sign a guy or acquire them in a trade.
