Agreed that I wouldn't want to live there.

But giving up that draft pick without more protection was especially dumb.

Enjoy having Andrew Wiggins on the payroll. The Warriors will pay him 94.5-million over the next three years, essentially slamming the doors shut on their dynasty and laying the remainder of Steph Curry's prime to bed. That is an anchor that no team could overcome. Minnesota robbed Golden State on this deal.

Maybe, but I hope not. I would love to see Wiggins win a championship and become a strong 3rd guy on that team.

I'll consider the deal for Russell a bad one for the Wolves until proven otherwise. Trading for Russell we added a poor defender as our second star on an already poor defensive team whose other star is also a poor defender. Trading for Russell, we added a player who's not particularly quick or athletic to a team that is short on quickness and athleticism. Russell has proven himself to be a good scorer and passer, but then I read the following in The Athletic:

"Despite his ability to score efficiently on his own, there is scant evidence Russell has been able to drive good offense. According to Cleaning the Glass, his brief Minnesota stint was the first time Russell's floor time has ever coincided with his team playing even league average offense, and over the first four seasons of his career, his teams' offenses were better with him on the bench than in the game."

That's a pretty troubling stat for a player whose known as a poor defender and whose calling card is offense. As if that isn't bad enough, the Wolves are paying him max money.

No doubt, Russell is an upgrade over Wiggins. And I'd actually be ok with the deal if not for the fact that the Wolves gave up next year's first round pick with only top 3 protection as well as the team's 2nd round pick. That just strikes me as too steep a price to pay for someone with Russell's track record and his poor fit as the team's other star with KAT. I would have been fine giving up next year's 2nd round pick and maybe even this year's Nets' pick. But I think the Wolves front office got played on this one because I don't think another team in the League would have given up as much for Russell.

Having said all that, Russell is still young enough and has shown enough so far to suggest that he could prove me wrong. And I'd love to be wrong on this one.
