He went off on the refs post game, saying it was one of the worst officiated games he's seen in his NBA career, claimed there was a couple fouls whistled before the contact even started, mentioned it was arrogant, all while Memphis still having the series free throw advantage and until tonight had shot the most free throws of any team in the playoffs!
I won't deny that we got the better whistle tonight, but he is an absolute moron for what he said. Obviously the refs are supposed to call the game fair but do you think the NBA referee association isn't appalled by what he said? We all know about their shady past, maybe the eternal optimist in me is taking over but I wonder if we will get some not only home cooking in game 6, but maybe a little in Memphis in a few days?

I thought his comments were ridiculous and pathetic. Maybe he was angry because the officials actually called most of the fouls committed against Towns - something that rarely happens. Or maybe he's pissed that Towns actually avoided committing any dumb offensive fouls. And I don't recall any whistles before any there was contact. That was just a product of his fertile imagination. I have seen far, far worse officiating in a lot of other games, including many that were clearly skewed against the Wolves. His comments were way over the top and asinine. I really hope the officials punish the Grizzlies these next two games for their coach's ridiculous comments.

I thought this game was like the rest of the postseason games for the Wolves so far blown calls that went against both teams. If there was an advantage for the Wolves I didn't see anything that merited that kind of outburst.

I agree, Monster. I think the following quote from the Grizzlies' Dillon Brooks was telling:
"I don't even wanna talk about the officiating," Grizzlies forward Dillon Brooks said. "When I was growing up, when I was in the league the first three years and I watched playoff basketball, there were barely any calls called. They let the players play and figure it out. I felt like they just wanna run the show. They want their name on TV, and their names are all over that TV, all three of them. It should be called out."
That comment tells me Taylor is probably just pissed that the officials aren't letting his players bang, bully and grab Wolves players, especially KAT, to the extent they expected based on what they've gotten away with in the past. At the same time, Morant didn't get the kit gloves treatment from the officials that the Grizzlies are used to. What I saw last night was officiating that we should see all the time - calling fouls when they occur and not giving special advantage to a player like Morant over a player like KAT. A foul is a foul and I though the officials got it right last night. Taylor's whining was, to my ears, the sound of a loser.

Their nervous, it is all it is. Watching live in the arena i didn't think anything was egregious, even though we don't the benefit of replay in the arena. They are just nervous. Wolves have all committed like 25 more fouls this series then the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies are just nervous. Love it.

I thought the Wolves got a very favorable whistle.
I have no problem with that. How often can we say that over the years?
And it turns out, Jenkins wasn't alone. Philadelphia -- another team who dominated from the free throw line for the first three games -- also complained loudly the first time they didn't get the lion's share of free throws.
The NBA is a very entitled league on many different levels.
[Note: This is all part of the gamemanship that's been around forever. I just find it funny when it comes from a team known for living at the line... and another team who leads the league in postseason free throw attempts.]

Dillion Brooks saying that officials want their names on TV is ridiculous. Every official knows that the less you know their name usually the better the official you are. The Wolves fouled a lot this season and the Grizzlies claim to still have that edge. Both teams were top 10 in FT attempts this season. Maybe he is complaining about the reviewing for flagrant fouls. I don't love that either but that's not on the refs they are doing what they are told to do. If I had to say there was no flagrant fouls in that game but you can't say what the intent was. Both of these teams play with some real toughness which is fun to see from 2 high scoring teams that also play with pace. It should be no surprise there is a bunch of fouls. If anything shouldn't that benefit the Grizzlies? They have more depth right?
What this comes down to is likely pretty simple and to some extent echoes what some other people have said. Control. Jenkins and Brooks think the officials are controlling the game it's out of their control and now they are voicing it which to me is whining because they think they don't have control. I watched the whole game and if I thought the Wolves were handed the game because of bad officiating I would say so. I simply didn't see it. Was there a lot of fouls called? Yep...just like every damn game in this series. To some extent officials are there to control the game. If they weren't supposed to do that why would they even be there? Memphis needs to just play basketball and quite worrying about the officials. Maybe Towns has rubbed off on them. Lol If so keep it up Karl! Oh and maybe figure out how to get your own guy Jackson to quit fouling so much it's been a problem since he came into the league.
