Every season you have the ultimate outcome for a team (Wins losses playoffs championship or how bad t he team fared) but to me the other aspect is assessing what you have or don't have in each individual player. Some guys you don't have to make any kind of definitive assessment because they are locked in for a long time rookies etc. Nowell is looking like a guy we may not have much of an assessment but that's ok. Other guys you may decide something on. Juancho and Beasley are guys the Wolves will have to make a decision on. Beasley Is interesting but for now I'm going to look at Juancho who is less likely to matter but maybe much easier to assess as well plus a likely much lower commitment to the player to retain him if they choose to.
I've always kinda liked him and watched from afar at times I wondered why he didn't get more opportunities but injury illness and a loaded Nuggets roster as well as inconsistent play have all been factors.
He has weak rebounding numbers (I think he did play some SF in Denver) and despite looking like a good shooter his 3 point percentage has waxed and waned. I was hoping he could come and be At least a temporary answer at PF but that's not looking great...if we want to like be kinda good.
My take on Juancho is this. He is actually more of a 3/4 than a 4/5. That's not a bad thing and I'm not suggesting he plays much at all at the 3 but he is more of a shooting guard version of Bjelly who was more of a PG hybrid whatever you want to then. Juancho still has a lot of size and length and he is pretty athletic and moves well. I think he knows how to play but he also needs to know what he is supposed to be doing. In other words knowing the system playing with guys he knows he will play better. I see him as a similar impact guy as Layman which it doesn't hurt to have guys like that around especially if you get them for perfectly reasonable deals. Can the Wolves bring back Juancho for the price you would pay a decent backup or do they end up overpaying him? I'm ok if they flat out let him walk also but if they can get him back cheap I think he has value as a backup. On the Denver broadcast they were raving about him as a great guy and awesome teammate. Of course they are gonna say nice things but I've gathered that Juancho is a pretty good dude and he is a guy that is a team guy at heart. Getting things right like what they do with Juancho may not be THE deals that catapult the Wolves to being a competent or even good franchise but getting them right can help/not hinder the organization going forward.
One last point. They shoild be playing Juancho some decent minutes going forward to find out what they have in him. If someone thought they did need to start him that I'm ok with but I say play him like 25mpg or whatever or at least till he starts bricking those 3's...although then maybe you play him more?!? Lol
