Worst Owner in the NBA?

Remember when Dolan and Sarver would get mentioned as the worst owners in the NBA because their teams were so dysfunctional? Is there a case for anyone other than Taylor at this point? This is really where the lack of national media coverage bothers me. We havent gotten our proper due on this topic nationally. We are a legit #1 in this area but keep getting overlooked by sexier, larger markets.

It isn't even close anymore in terms of athletics. Taylor should take notice; you invested $, now hands off of all operations.

Thing is as an owner he has a Dynasty in the WNBA. Taylor sucks and think he got lucky with Reeve but he is on the complete opposite spectrum when it comes to NBA and WNBA success

10 straight winning seasons with six Finals appearances and four Finals wins in that time span. You literally can't be more polar opposites than the Wolves and Lynx. Same Owner.

I don't know how to reconcile it given the general consensus is that Taylor is an awful Owner that has bred a culture of losing. That obviously doesn't apply to the Lynx. I suppose the dynamics in Women's b-ball is so much more different than the Men's side that if you have just a couple things fall your way (coach and player or two), you are good to go.

The Lynx failed into so many high picks, in a smaller league, with a more condensed player pool.

Obviously they did great with their #1 overall picks in Maya Moore and Augustus. I wouldn't say they feel into picks, they got Brunson from a team disappearing draft at #2. Traded for Whalen and Fowels, traded for Natasha Howard after she had a down year and value was an all time low Signed Mccarvell and Robinson who were UTR signings, they also had a big miss high in the draft in Candace Wiggins and that was for the dynasty.

After the dynasty they traded for Sims, drafted Collier at like #6 who was not suppose to as good as she was (Lynx best player), Jessica Shepard was looking like a 1st team all rookie team before tearing her ACL (she was a 2nd round pick), then last year Dangerfield became the latest ROY ever being drafted in the 2nd round.

Glen Taylor sucks but he hired a machine in Reeve and that is not because they just feel into picks. They are the goal standard in professional sports

Not even close. Dolan is a bad guy who runs a team a lot of people care about. Glen is a good guy who is absolutely clueless running a team nobody cares about. That's why Glen has been able to be awful under the national radar.

That is interesting....sort of counters the narrative with Glen a bit. Again, not trying to make excuses for his stewardship of the Wolves, but obviously not everything he touches turns to crap. Quite the opposite with the Lynx.

Glen has made bad executive hiring decisions for the Wolves. It's that simple. Actually, hiring McHale as his first PBO was a pretty good decision. McHale was a basketball savant who made some good personnel decisions, especially his decision to draft KG with the 5th pick at a time when drafting players right out of high school was considered highly problematic. McHale's tenure yielded positive results as the Wolves became a perennial playoff team that won more than 50 games several seasons before finally making the Western Conference finals in 2004.

But after that, Glen's PBO hiring decisions were disasters. And you don't need hindsight to reach that conclusion for a couple of them. Seriously, what other other franchise would have even considered hiring David Kahn as their top basketball executive? Hiring Flip to replace him wasn't a terrible decision, but there were better alternatives and sadly we'll never know how things would have turned out if Flip hadn't passed away. Then Glen hired Thibodeau - someone who had never even worked in an NBA front office and who had a long-standing reputation as someone who didn't work well with others - a fundamental flaw in anyone expected to run an organization. Worse yet, Glen gave him both the PBO and head coach position - an impossible dual responsibility for anyone, especially someone temperamentally ill-suited to be the team's top basketball executive. Hiring Rosas wasn't so obviously suspect at the time. But after watching Gersson's first press conference I knew air would have crossed him off my list after the first interview.

All Glen had to do to be successful was hire one of many other current NBA PBOs or GMs, including the following, at some point during his ownership:
1. Current Raptors PBO, Masai Ujiri,
2. Current Warriors current PBO, Bob Myers
3. Prior Warriors PBO Larry Riley, who drafted Steph Curry
4. Spurs GM Robert Buford
5. Dallas PBO, Donnie Nelson

Isn't it funny that he has been mostly hands-off with the Lynx, and they are good?
