No worries, he'll be benched for Ja by All star break anyway

There was no chance he was going to decline that option. Hopefully, we can buy him out and resign Tyus.

Legit question, why do you want to buy him out? It doesn't help our cap situation to buy him out and the wolves were pretty darn good when he played record wise. Even though at times he is hard to watch

Sigh.....Teague is just not a good fit. We need a point guard that is willing to shoot the damn ball from beyond the arc. I'm not sure Tyus is the right guy either frankly, which is hugely disappointing after what I thought would be a bit of a breakout year for him.
Question. Does this make Teague more tradeable as an expiring? I guess it depends on what kind of contract we get back and whether that player is a better fit for our squad.

Maybe get a slightly better player (fit) but one more year on a bad contract?

From Dane Moore.
Jeff Teague opting into his $19M player option pushes the Timberwolves team salary $108.7M for eight players (Wiggins, Teague, Dieng, Covington, Towns, Saric, Okogie, Bates-Diop).
If KAT makes All-NBA that number grows to $114.1M.
The 2019-20 salary is projected to be $109M.
*I'll be curious to see how this affects signing Rose or Tyus, could be a lot of super cheap options for the Wolves this year.

Well, I would look to buy him out at a lesser amount out if we can do so to improve our cap flexibility. I don't know if a buy out would reduce the cap hit, but we might just want to get rid of him if the Wolves want Tyus or someone else to be the starter and worry Teague might not be happy about it. Of course, if we could find a team that would give up a draft pick for him, that would even be better.

For those not well versed in cap talk, why would he agree to a buyout?

Because otherwise he'd have to play another season with this crappy team would be my best guess.
