Sources: NBA has sent teams the proposal for 2021-22 season changes:
- 78-game regular season
- In-season tournament ($1M per player, $1.5M coaches pool for champion)
- Play-in tourneys for 7-8 playoff seeds
- Final 4 reseed in playoffs based on regular season records

How does any of that help any of their issues? You will end up playing more games. Most teams can give up trying to win during the season because they can get a PO spot at the end of the season with a healthy squad.

Stop trying to fix things that weren't broke, and address the real problem. No fan loyalty because of no player loyalty. Either drop down to 8 super teams, or restrict FA to eliminate the super teams.

Get rid of player max contracts and you will have a much fairer system. It's stupid having multiple max guys join up to dominate. Not an even playing field.

Widen the court 2 and half feet. Move the 3 point line back 1 foot on the corners and top of the key. Open up midrange and reduce 3 point percentage slightly. More space, better game.

Keep schedule at 82 games, reduce preseason by one week. Extend regular season by 1 week (start earlier). Less back to backs.

So we've had one really good play-in game in recent history.

Now the NBA is chasing that or something. Can't wait to see a 33-49 team beat a 49-33 team in the 7/8 play-in tourney.

That'll sure show all those whining about "the regular season means nothing" that the regular season actually does... NOW... mean nothing.

Remove the salary cap completely -- similar to Major League Baseball -- or allow teams to pay only one player on the roster whatever they want to without it affecting luxury tax.

They could fold the Timberwolves franchise, that'd certainly make for a better on-court product!

You don't get rid of the cap, you make it a hard cap. Getting rid of it means LAL have five superstars on their team. The NFL and NHL have hard caps and give the best chance for all teams to compete.

Eliminate the buyouts, or restrict players from playing out the season with another team. Change FA to include a bidding process that requires team to pay players what they are worth (stopping players from taking less). Have a mandatory life suspension for agents that circumvent the rules.

I respectfully disagree, but I think you and I have debated this thoroughly in the past.

In baseball... you can sorta/kinda make up for a huge disparity in payroll.

I'm just not sure how that would be possible in the NBA.

it's impossible. the nature of the game makes it so 1 guy has that much pull over the outcome of games.
