NCAA Tourney thread

Just watched my first college basketball of the season last night. That coaches kid for Cuse put on a show. I didn't finish watching that game I went back to finish watching a Wolves game from a few days ago. It was a wonderful surprise that they actually won.

First time doing a bracket in years but I did one because it's fun to participate at the newer job. So far I'm batting .500...is that good? Lol

I'll probably try catching at least part of a couple games the next 2 days. It's weird watching live TV.

I can't think of many college personalities I dislike more than Jim Boeheim. I think he's smug. Condescending. A whiner. Crybaby. Bully. Et al. I even dislike how he looks.

But he keeps winning... and in the NCAA tournament. Lousy person. Great coach.

My only interest in this tournament is checking out Suggs, Mobley and Cunningham...the only college players we should consider drafting in the first round this year if we get lucky in the lottery. Cunningham laid an egg yesterday (3-14 shooting and only 1 assist and 4 turnovers...a recurring issue for him), and the other two play later today.

In all fairness, Cunningham had 2-3 defenders draped all over him yesterday, so I'll give him the same pass I gave Edwards when he faced similar defenses during his college year. Cade will not be a PG in the pros, so his turnovers will be less of an issue, and he won't be double-teamed as much either. So you have to take that into consideration as you watch him the rest of the tournament. Still I thought Cade forced things too much yesterday. OkState is not a 1-man team like Georgia was last year and they have some other scoring options. If Cade sees the same kind of defensive pressure he saw yesterday the rest of this tournament (and I expect he will) he needs to show me he can find the open man out of the double team without turning the ball over. Absent that, I'll be turning my attention to Suggs and Mobley.

In fact anyone not playing outside on this gorgeous afternoon should take a look at Mobley at 3:30. USC isn't very good, so every game could easily be his last. But watching him, you'll be drooling about adding a mobile 7 footer to put next to Towns.

Still with him having a rough game. When it came to crunch time he came through.

DLO
Edwards
Cade Cunningham
John Collins
Kat

Starting line up next year would be a dream to me.

That's trapping zone just screws with teams when they see it. SDSU was 11-40 and played right into there hands yesterday.

Yeah, that would be good...I like Cade as a SF. I'm guessing that lineup assumes we get Collins for Beas plus pieces, and I don't know if Atlanta bites on that. If they don't, and we still need a PF, I prefer:

Rubio
DLO
Edwards
Mobley (check him out today at 3:30)
KAT

That lineup would be awesome at both ends of the court, but Glen would have to shell out millions in lux tax.

Or, if Atlanta would take a DLO for Collins swap getting us out of three max salaries, I like:

Rubio
Edwards
Cunningham
Collins
KAT.

And if the Wolves decide to move Rubio instead ( I don't know the return), I'd probably be looking at:

Suggs
DLO
Edwards
McDaniels/Vando
KAT

First we have to win the lottery. Then with 3 potential great players in the draft, I think we take the one that fills the biggest need. All options are pretty exciting to me.

I agree with Abe about how feel about him although probably not as strongly. He also went through a stretch for a few years recently where they were just good enough to get into the tourney but that's about it. Kinda disappointing for a program with that championship pedigree. Still...many schools would love to only be that good.

Yeah. They're no longer a perennial power... BUT... 2 Final Fours, an Elite Eight and a sweet 16 in less than a decade.

That stupid (but effective) zone.

17/11/2 with 3 blocks for Mobley today. He had almost all of that in the first half and I didn't see the second. I wonder if he didn't play that much in the second half. He was certainly the most impressive of the Big Three today.

Viewing schedule CDT:

Sunday

11:10: Loyola vs. Illinois: 101-year-old Sister Jean and possible future Gopher coach Porter Moser (although how about Sam Mitchell?).

8:40 Oregon St vs Ok State: Bounce back game for Cade Cunningham?

Monday:

1:40: Gonzaga vs Oklahoma: Bounce back game for Jason Suggs?

8:40: USC vs. Kansas: Perhaps the last time to scout Evan Mobley before we see him as part of the Twin Towers with KAT!
