That is what they call a KILLER CONTRACT! What a horrible decision. I get the attraction, but there is simply no way you can give that kind of money that has a 50/50 shot of even being in the league in 3 years. Glad it wasn't the Wolves forced to make that decision.

If healthy, Embiid is a transformational player. But it's that "if health" part that causes me to join Hicks in being thankful it's not the Wolves making this decision.
The Wolves are about to sign Wiggins to the same 5-year max deal. Do I think he's worth it? No. Thus far in his career he's failed to excel in any of the do-stuff categories like rebounding, getting to loose balls or forcing turnovers. His defense has been poor and his 3-point shooting spotty. But I'm fine giving him the max because you know he'll give you 37 minutes 82 games a season and score over 20 points per game. And I still see him having the potential to improve a lot defensively and from behind the arc, possibly becoming an all-star caliber player. Durability, scoring and the potential that comes with his length, incredible athleticism and nice looking shooting stroke are Andrew's calling cards.
Embiid has the game of a budding superstar. Statistically, he's already proven to be a game-changer when he's on the court. But none of that matters if you can't count on him to be on the court. So in his NBA career he's been unable to stay on the court. Durability is often undervalued in the NBA. But it goes without saying that you can't contribute anything as a player, no matter how good you are, if you're sitting on the bench in street cloths.

I'm gonna wait and see the details first.

"Embiid's extension has been described to me as "perhaps the most complex" in NBA history. Expect a lot of details to trickle out."
On the other hand Gary Harris is getting like 21 million a year so the idea is some of these pretty good young players are gonna get paid.

It will be interesting to see the details. Maybe there's a team option after 2 or 3 years, but I don't know if that's permissible under the CBA. I think the full value of the max salary counts against the Sixers' cap regardless of any incentive conditions included in the contract. So unless there's an early out for the Sixers, this was a pretty high risk role of the dice for the franchise.

It sounds like Harris extension is really only 4 years 74 million. I sounds like the the larger number 4 years 80+ million was including some unlikely incentives.

Still, a huge risk even with the protection added.

I would have been tempted to wait and see what he did this season but what if someone signs him to an offer sheet without those protections next summer? All in all this probably is sorta fair because Embiid's talent is there and even if it was 30 games or whatever he looked unbelieveable last year on both ends. Health seems to be the only issue keeping him from being a top player at his position and possibly in the entire league. It will be interesting to see how his career plays out. I've always believed in his talent I've just had significant concerns about him staying healthy. I hope he can stay healthy.
