Whew... I worried for a bit there.

It took 50+ games... but we're finally back to normal.

With the injuries and new regime, Wiggins is shooting 19+ times per game over the last month and has surpassed KAT for the most shots per game.

Just like the Wolves like it. After all, if you can get the guy shooting 39.6%/34.1%/71.7% more attempts than the guy shooting 49.8%/37.6%/84.9% ... you gotta do it.

It's worked out well in the past.

Wiggins is averaging 21 ppg this month... with 39/31/70 shooting splits. He's shooting 38% since Christmas. He's up to 18 ppg.

I know Allen Iverson and Jerry Stackhouse had 20+ ppg seasons with sub 40% shooting seasons in the early 2000s era of grind it out hoops. Old Man Kobe did it for half a season at the end. Those are All Star players! Anybody else you guys can think of?

I just compared Wiggins to All Stars Allen Iverson, Jerry Stackhouse and Kobe Bryant... and you think this is an anti-Wiggins thread???

;)

If someone could stay out of foul trouble maybe we wouldn't have to rely so much on Wiggins.

In the absence of a change in our overall offensive scheme, I just don't see what options Ryan has that would be better. Someone has to take the shots and often KAT isn't in a position to do so because he's in foul trouble, he's double teamed, or he sets weak picks that don't really force the defense to make a tough choice on who to guard (and therefore potentially free him up for more open looks).

There is literally no one else that is healthy on the roster that can take on that #2 or #1B role to KAT. Wiggins is it and we live with the consequences. If he had league average efficiency level, we'd probably be a top 10 offense.

I know. Enough with the sense and sensibilities garbage. This is the Internetz!

Let me post kneejerk reactionary statistics to fit my narrative -- while ignoring all contextual stuff entirely.

Bunch of killjoys around here, I tell ya.

I'm liking this thread Abe.

The positive is...Wiggins averaged over 6 FT attempts in January.

As for efficiency...it's horrendous...obviously. Of the basic distances on Basketball reference he is shooting a career low in all of them except 3 point percentage. I don't see Wiggins even as maddening as he is to shoot that bad for the whole season especially at the rim where he is 59%. His poor shooting is like anomaly bad right now.

I'd be interested to see what his breakdown of shot zones was for January. He is taking a career high percentage of his shots at the rim and from three combined at 54.2%.

Edit:

Ok I looked up what Wiggins has been doing in various ranges and zones on NBA.com. He has clearly upped his attempts in the restricted area while his 3 point attempts especially with him taking more shots has dropped slightly. So he is attacking more and getting to the rim. Bad news? He shot 42.5% in the restricted area in the 11 games he has played for Ryan and 47.7 in January. Again that's just insanely bad and has to be some sort of anomaly. His career low before this year was 62% in 2016-2017. Not much else was too significantly changed in his shot profile between his stats from the season compared to January/last 11 games. I'll be interested to see what this month brings.

The good news I guess is that as crappy as Wigs is, all the injuries and with KAT's fouling issues the Wolves are not dead last in the West.
