The lone star quality talent on a team that will fail to surround him with championship quality teammates?

And Towns is the new Duncan with handles and a 3 point shot!

Heh, not quite. For all the comparisons to Duncan, KAT has a loooooong ways to go defensively. Offensively, he'll be better than Duncan.

Right now it looks a bit that way. Bad management in both cases. Injuries for the Pelicans are the parallel to Marbury leaving and the Joe Smith debacle.

There are some important differences though. Wolves were handcuffed by KG's deal consuming so much of their cap room since it came before max contracts were a thing. It has to be a bit easier to recruit FAs to come to New Orleans than Minneapolis for weather reasons. And the Pelicans ownership seems more willing to make management/coaching changes than Glen.

Lastly, KG was much healthier and had a bigger impact on winning IMO. Peak KG + D League level talent was practically enough to sneak into the playoffs.

I think it's a fair comparison. The issue with KG wasn't that he didn't have talent around him because there was talent. There was no other star talent for a number of years. You can't be a contender with just one superstar and maybe a couple all star level players and some effective role players. Who is the star with AD right now? Heck who is an all star level player on that's squad? They need Buddy to be terrific or some other player to come out of nowhere. Honestly that's the team aI could see at the. Ottom of the WC because...AD has a hard time staying healthy and a number of other guys that are good have the same issue. Of course that could end up being good as they could get another high pick and maybe get another star player. The thing about the Pelicans is they could have a shot at clearing cap space and signing a guy which the Wolves didn't really have as an option years ago. I like AD he is a terrific talent and seems like a good guy so I want him to succeed but they are in the WC and I think that team right now is behind a few young teams when it comes to young talent. We will see.
