I wanted to look back at last year's signings to see which ones were the best and which ones were the worst. Both performance and contract were taken into consideration.

The worst Contracts (average salary rounded to nearest million):

Best Signings (based on production and value, for best signings I excluded players resigning with their own teams):

3. Kevin Durant Max
4. Horford 27M
5. James Johnson 4M
6. Eric Gordon 12M
7. Pachulia 2M
8. Gasol 15M
9. Joe Johnson 11M
10. Jeremy Lin 12M

Honorable Mention: Jared Dudley (10M), Nene (4M), David Lee (2M), Garret Temple (8M), Kuzminskas (3M), Willie Reed (2M), Ryan Anderson (20M)

Of course, when you compile lists like this, people will always disagree. However, let me know if you think there are any real glaring omissions to either list. Thanks!

This is why I fail to see how JJ Reddick gets 20 million, there is less total capspace than last season and teams have to see those hideous deals you've listed

I think to win in free agency, you have to go big (Durant, Horford) or go bargain. Getting in a bidding war for non-star talent is just a bad idea. Lots of 16 Million plus contracts doled out for aging or injury prone vets (Noah, Deng, Wade, Parsons) or non-difference makers (Crabbe, Turner, Mozgov, Bazemore) and one year wonders (Biyombo, Mahinmi).

Horford should have made the great signings list.

It's fun to look at all the names on your worst contract list who were highly desired by this board. Biyombo, Noah, Deng (especially), Batum all come to mind. So glad we didn't land any of those guys.

Thibs got a little heat from this board for "missing out" on them too lol, turned out to be pretty smart

I wouldn't have rivers on the list, I think he is a very solid player who gets a bad rap on things and is a player I would look at if the Clippers look to blow it up.

Also bismack I would pay 18 mil to but in the right situation I still think he could be really valuable.


But overall I agree with your list.

I don't know....I loved Deng and Horford. One worked out for their team and one didn't. Also, injuries were a factor for a couple of the guys on the "bad" list. That can happen to anyone, as we well know.

Also, I'd say once we saw the contracts of some of the free agents, there was some sticker shock and some of us were then OK with not spending that kind of money even if we liked the player involved.

I generally liked what Thibs did as GM in terms of keeping his powder dry for the most part and drafting Dunn. I didn't like what he did as coach.
