Revisiting the Chicago trade

I hated the trade when it happened, I was so depressed on draft night, admittedly that was an emotional reaction to trading Zach. For me he was by far the most likable and entertaining player to watch on the wolves. In my opinion he a ton of upside, even after the injury. He athleticism and shooting is a great combination. I was higher on Dunn then most, he was terrible last year, I wish they would of gave him the keys and let him play through the struggles as opposed to the 10-12 minutes he was given, especially on a non-playoff team.

With all that said I came around on the trade quickly, how can you argue getting a player like Butler. I personally think our currently roster is constructed in win the the 90's not today. If I could I would go with my initial thoughts on this trade at take it back given the opportunity. Markkanen is perfect in today's game, and would be great next to Kat, teams would really have to adjust to us, our spacing would be night and day with him and Zach on the floor, giving Lat the spacing he doesn't have currently. I think we limited our ultimate upside with the trade.

Have you watched Butler play? The only bad part about this trade was it should have been Wiggins not Zach that was sent to Chicago. I think the only other way the trade negatively affected the team is that Wiggins' feelings got hurt when it became obvious he was now the third or worse player on the team.

Jimmy Butler is amazing. He's one of those guys who plays hard every night, like he's a career D-Leaguer just getting his one shot in the NBA, except he has All-Star talent. That's such a rare combo. I don't always love how he tends to iso a bit too much on offense, but he's just a smart, hustling, talented dude. Love picking up him and Taj both. We need that toughness and energy.

I appreciated his effort in the 3rd quarter yesterday. The Wolves were up 15+... the Kings had a breakout and Temple was going for a layup or dunk and Butler raced down and knocked the ball away in a fly-by.

Maybe other players would have exerted the same energy there. Maybe it was meaningless. But it resonated with me as a fan.

It was a great play. You know what was maybe more surprising about that play? Wiggins had literally sprinted his ass off to get down there too. Yes Wiggins. If Butler hadn't got Temple Wiggins was actually there sizing him up. To your point with Butler you appreciate the play but it's not surprising the effort is there from Butler. Wiggins it's a surprise.

My feeling is that Zach is the cream of the crop between him and Wiggins. Looking at how Wiggins has regressed but actually is having his worst year statistically, my feeling is that we will regret it. Dunn is playing well also.

My only thought is, who knows if Dunn develops here, he likely would still but with a backup role fighting with Tyus for minutes. IDK. The way he's shooting he could have aged more SG backup up Zach.

Oh well. We just have to hope that Wiggins turns into Rudy Gay 2.0 and not Rudy Gay 2.0 but with a Rubio jumper.

Zach LaVine is sorta like the backup QB right now...

His stock is rising while he's not playing.

Ehhh... Perhaps, but I've been on the "LaVine is better than Wiggins" bandwagon for quite a while now. Him being injured doesn't really change anything about my opinion. I think I get where you're coming from, though.
