Free agent bargain so far

Just based on the season so far my pick without digging very far is Tyreke Evans. He has been playing like maybe even the Grizz best player for a chunk of the season. His 3 point shooting has been a revelation. He looks more like the player you would have expected him to be all these years. That guy is balling out putting up some nice all around stats for just 3 million. I thought someone could get a bargain signing him and he stayed healthy but I didn't see this coming.

His 3P shot improved in New Orleans too, but yeah, he's the NBA's biggest bargain right now and arguably the MIP.

Another absolute bargain is Thabo Sefolosha. He signed a 2-yr/$10.5M deal this summer with Utah and has been a great rotation player. I wanted him, but it turns out we had our eyes on C.J. Miles instead, understandably so.

I think it would make an interesting study/debate if the Wolves signed somebody like Sefolosha or even Luc Mbao a Moute ($2.1M). I know Moute was here previously... but he's one of those 5th option defense-first guys that would seemingly be able to fit in on a team with Wiggins, Butler, Teague and Towns where scoring isn't always needed.

The interesting part is whether the team would gel more with him with the starters instead of a guy like Wiggins who is an immensely better scorer... but who is a bit redundant.

Oh... nevermind. That would mean Thibodeau would have to be be willing to experiment with different rotations.

Yeah, I think a number of us were high on Thabo or PJ Tucker because we felt this team needed some additional toughness on the wing. This was before we got Butler, which is sort of like hitting the motherload of wing toughness. Still, adding Thabo instead of Bazz or even Crawford would have been a great move for us.

Also, YES, if you were to replace Wiggins with a legit 3&D, low usage wing, I don't think we skip a beat. Back in 2012 Memphis swapped out Gay (25% usage rate) for Prince (15% usage rate) and actually got better for it. They then proceeded a run of 50+ win NBA seasons. Now if Wiggins ever gets a consistent 3-point shot and keeps improving defensively, may be HE can be our 3&D wing!

Thabo got a contract we couldn't have paid after the bigger moves. Thibs swung for the fences or was hoping for a double or something with Bazz as a young player and it's been the worst miscalculations so far of the offseason. It's kinda nice that he wasn't just all in on vets and was hoping to get some young depth which this team will need going forward no pun intended.

We had no money left by the time we got Bazz. What other players took the league minimum that we should have pursued over Bazz? That wasn't a miscalculation. We had no resources left outside of trading a pick and we got a guy who was already here and knew the system at the minimum. It hasn't worked out, but that's still looking like the best option that was on the table when it happened. That was more of a desperation play to get a body on the wing than a home run or double swing.

Kahns I agree somewhat. To clarify I am saying its the biggest miscalculation in that all the other players that have come in have been pretty good. Bazz has been terrible. They could have gone after a guy like Dante (hasn't exactly been all that great) who probably would have signed here if Bazz wasn't here. He was really close to signing anyway. There may have been another guys out there they could have signed as well if they went harder after them but they went all in on Bazz. There are other guys that we could have signed that....are out there available if that's the route we really wanted to go. As long as we can make the playoffs I would like to see them play some of these younger guys including Bazz to see if they can get something out of them for the future. Matt Barnes announced on instagram he is retiring so he isn't an option anymore. lol Even though he isn't the most likelable dude in some ways he would have been useful for this team as a tough wing who somehow always ended up being useful on winning teams.
