Sounds like Penberthy probably wanted to stay an independent contractor. He can work with more players than just wolves that way plus live in LA. Lol sounds like a good gig a lot less travel more time with family etc.

Let's see if Gates guy can morph into our head coach eventually. Either way I am glad that Flip is injecting some new minds into the organization.

I like Calvin Booth too, didn't know he was on our staff, only heard him on the radio as an analyst.

I wonder if Gates was hired after Penberthy made the decision to turn down a full time gig. It probably was somewhat difficult to turn down a full time job working for an NBA franchise those opportunities don't come around too often. Gates seems like he is highly respected so maybe that's not how it went down.

I would think Gates was hired to add another assistant to the bench since Sam is not head coach. Which is another indicator that Flip will not be back soon.
A couple of people have mentioned they welcome Sam taking over as head coach, and I count myself among them. We are familiar with Flip's offensive and defensive failings. We have an opportunity to see what a former COY can do now, and it is on a trial basis to boot!
