Pek is shut down for the season

what could we even get for him with his 3 years at 12 million a piece? I'd be willing to take any player in the league as long as it was 2 years or less on their contract to be honest.

Loyd--

A ham sandwich

We are looking for a realistic response here, not rash optimism.

We can forget trading him. The best we can hope for at this point is that he retires due to a medical condition and then his salary comes off the books the year after next (I believe there is a one year waiting period where there is no cap relief). The second best thing we can hope for is that he's able to manage the injury to the point where he can play 15-20 minutes off the bench. Every time we think the issue is under control, he gets inserted back into the starting lineup and it's only a matter of time before he's hurt again. I just can't see it ever getting completely resolved. It royally sucks. He's the only true Center on the roster.

I think if you can figure a way to play KG and Pek together on defense for their 15-20 minutes a game, that would be a solid interior defense with good rebounding. I highly doubt you can find any team willing to take him on, unless you're also willing to shell out a pick for the inconvenience. Flip isn't going to Kahn us like that Wes Johnson deal... at least I don't think.

Pek needs to lose some weight and the coach needs to limit his minutes. I thought Flip did a poor job of that this season.

Forgive me father, I was being too optimistic. I'll settle for a bag of chips, the ones at the bottom of the shelf.

Totally get this bleed. But the reality is that we are so talent starved that we can't afford to limit guys like Pek and KG. That's why I have such a hard time imagining a benefit to signing KG next season. Going into the year, you know that BEST CASE, he is going to play maybe 50 games due to his time restrictions. Add on some unforeseen injuries, and you are looking at a guy playing 40 games, and making $5M (as some suggested). Has noone noticed the injury issues with this team the past several years? We need able bodied guys that can at least POTENTIALLY play all games. Already knowing Pek can't play more than 50 games is a huge blow to this team.

I agree Hicks. We absolutely don't need KG wasting a roster spot when he will likely play no more than 50 games, and less than half of each game no less. Plus each year of additional age is another year of his skills and athleticism deteriorating. If anything, he will be even more limited and injury prone next year.

For those of you who would rebut, "but it's well worth the price for his mentorship", why can't he be a player development coach or special assistant?

The whole KG trade was a sugar high. We were taken to great emotional heights for one night. But frankly, other than that one fleeting moment, it's been kind of a joke.....

I called this out at the time, as well as after the like 2 decent defensive games we played. It was always a sham. At no point is KG going to help our team win by playing for the Wolves. Maybe as a player development coach....but being a good defensive player doesn't just magically make that same player a great developer of talent. Thus the reason so few players transition successfully to head coaching assignments.
