Hummel Signing

He signed a 1-year guaranteed deal for 900K. I'm delighted by this signing, although I find the timing somewhat odd....It kind of came out of left field.

Here is why I like this deal: It's a good value. You can plug Robbie Hummel into the lineup and he's one of these guys that just knows how to play the game. He'll keep the ball moving, block out, give good effort on defense, and take smart shots. He won't make dumb turnovers. Is he a difference maker? Not really. But at 900K per year, I'll take a guy that you can put into the lineup with other difference makers and won't mess things up.

One thing to keep an eye on: Hummel could have a breakout shooting year. His shot started to come around last year as he got more regular minutes and he's proven on other levels (including the Spanish league, which is pretty darn good) that he can knock down the 3-pointer. We desperately need shooters on this squad and he could be one of them.

Welcome back Robbie!

Agreed, do we have an open roster spot now, I like Hummel, never going to be an awesome player, but I think he can be a good three point shooter, if injuries present themselves and he is a cheap option.

Or maybe he was signed to be part of a Wiggins deal. :)

Maybe this is another sign that the wiggins trade will happen, Hummel is another wing (I know he can play some 4), more wings will go out in the Wiggins trade like Bud/Brewer/LRAM/Shved/Martin

Or Flip is lining up some other separate deal to move a wing for a PF or backup PG. We do have a disproportionate number of guys that can play the 3: Brewer, Budinger, Muhammed, Mbah Moute, Robinson III, and Hummel. Brewer and Bud can probably play some 2. Mbah Moute, Robinson, and Hummel can all probably play a little small-ball 4. So there is some flexibility here, but not much.

Hummel can bring offense playing PF primaraly as a 3 point threat which is something no other backup PF can do on the team. Dante's FT line jumper is nothing exciting.

I know KG was on the team but didn't Flip run a lot of smallish ball with the Wolves?

We have only one roster spot left. Presumably, that slot is slated for GRIII. But I have a hard time believing that Flip is content to start the season with last season's roster plus our two new rookies. So if Flip ends up keeping Love, then he has to have some deals lined up that will move out a couple of our current roster players from last season. Otherwise, this deal seems to suggest that a Love-Wiggins deal is in the works and that the deal will involve moving out one or two of last year's players.

I like Hummel, he's come a long way, he's a solid, cheap end of the bench guy. I think there's still room for growth in his game too. Works for me.

I sure wish I saw any of what you guys have in Hummel. He can't guard the 3 or the 4 because he has zero lateral movement, no vertical, and is too small for PF's. His shooting is terrible. His TS% was the same as Ricky's last season, and he is playing against other scrubs. This has no business on an NBA roster, but I guess that doesn't worry Flip. Really seems stupid to sign him at this point, or were we worried he would get snatched up.

On the upside, his shooting can't get any worse.
