Well, it's not much of an update. But we ought to be learning more in the near future!

Just saw big Pek stroll through Wolves practice facility with walking boot on. Asked how he was, he replied, "Great." Usually it's "solid"

Alarming that he is still in a walking boot!

Did they shave a bone for a sore Achilles, or did they repair his Achilles?

I am pretty sure he was not schedule to begin rehab until he got back here this month. So I guess I am not surprised he is still in the boot.

I think it's best to just assume Pek will not be ready to start the season. Karl Towns is our starting Center and Dieng his back up. I can live with that. Anything we get from Pek at this point is gravy.

I agree. I have pretty much ruled him out. And even if he can play in limited minutes, whose to say that he can still be effective? While he was still better than most of our other bigs last season, he really struggled to finish plays.

Yep. Using that mindset will keep disappointment down. And if he does come back and play - it will just be a nice, unexpected bonus.

The Pek news is as expected. Although they didn't have to repair the tendon, they did have to shave down the bone and the surgery was not orthoscopic. He was expected to be in the boot for several months. But the star of the season is still almost 4 months away, so I still am hoping he will be ready to go by then.

I think we clearly have to take Pek's performance last season with a large grain of salt given that what minutes he did play were all played in pain. He was never physically right last season due to the foot issue. I'm not saying he'll ever be right again, but if the surgery was a success then I don't think it's fair to judge him, or set expectations based off of last season.

Yeah, I agree, SP. I was as hard on Pek as anyone here as he missed layup after layup last season, but my opinion about him after the surgeon reported what he found when he opened Pek up. He had to be playing in terrible pain, and that must have had a negative impact on his ability to finish at the rim (42% shooting last year compared to 52% for his career). This team will be really good if Pek can return to the form he showed the two seasons before last, when he averaged 17 and 9 in about 60 games a year. Not only will that production help, but it would also free up Towns to play more PF. Pek is a real X factor this year, and I'm staying optimistic that last year's surgery took care of his foot issues.

Last year Pek had a lot of disadvantages and a couple of those will be present this year. Even if he comes back dorn the start of the season he will be rusty (he seemed to be rusty last year too) for a while. This is just another reason I wish we had a d-league affiliate. We could give Pek a few tune up games. Granted you would want to closely monitor him in those games etc. Pek won't have the familiarity with his PF this year either like he did playing a decent chunk of the time with Love in previous seasons. The key for Pek is playing with some solid PG play which at times last year was not the case. Ricky really uses Pek's strengths very well.
