Carmelo to inform Knicks he's going to opt out of extra year.

Honestly in some ways I think the sooner the Knicks get rid of all the big money guys on their roster including Melo the better off they will be. Next year they will have a ton of cap room. Its gonna be interesting to see what Melo does and also what Phil does.

monster, I think they come up empty for a while because there won't be big time free agents to sign. It's going to have to start again from scratch, which means solid drafting. And that's going to take some time with that situation.

melo getting traded to the knicks was an end of an era of players going to big markets.

Truth is, the biggest celebrity athletes today are in the NBA. A guy like Durant doesn't need to go to the Lakers or the Knicks to be a huge brand. What actually seems to matter more is being on a winning team. Players aren't stupid enough to force themselves to the Lakers or Knicks because they're a complete mess.

If Melo goes and signs with the bulls and they become a powerhouse, he'll be a much bigger celebrity then if he signed with the Lakers and win 30 games.

It's much more important to avoid being stuck with with a badly run team and get branded a "loser who can't lead his team"

Melo looks like he couldn't get it done in NY, when in fact they gave Melo a terrible JR Smith as his number 2, a over the hill Tyson Chandler, and Amare's dead weight contract. Not to mention bonehead coaches.

Lebron looked like a guy who "couldn't get it done" with the Cavs and how he'll never be Jordan or Kobe. After getting to 4 straight finals and a couple titles, all of sudden he's into the GOAT discussion.

Even Dwight Howard could see the writing on the wall with the Lakers. People will say that he left because he couldn't handle LA. Truth is that he saw the writing on the wall and saw the Lakers are going to be bad for a long time and he would be blamed for that if he stuck around. Now he's in a much better situation.

All the talk now about Love is how "he can't even lead his team to the playoffs" I bet you that in a few years that wither he's in GS, or whatever he team he signs with, he'll be in the playoffs plenty putting up huge numbers. That critique will be long gone.


Big market having the advantage is dead. The NBA is too popular. The best front offices is where the superstars will want to go

Yet if 2 All Stars want to play together and 2 cites have the exact same amount of capspace and they will have the choice of NY or Salt Lake City -or- LA or Detroit I think I know which cites they would choose

Oh I hope we get to watch an ESPN Decision special on where Carmelo goes. Jim Gray could host again. Maybe have a few team hats in front of him, and before that, Jim could interview him for an hour while we all sit on pins and needles!
