NBA Finals and Wolves angle

I've been trying to find a team to cheer for here. Normally it's easy for me to cheer against a 2-time winner like Miami, but I've always had a hard time cheering for Tim Duncan. (A good friend of my son's is an NBA stringer and spends a lot of time in locker rooms, and says Duncan is by far the biggest dink in the league). But Jerry Zgoda (of all people) gave me a Wolves angle that helps me cheer for the Spurs.
Here's my interpretation of Zgoda's take. The best way for Wolves' fans to get over the pain of an imminent Love departure would be a deal with the Cavs for Waiters and #1. But I've been saying that Cleveland isn't likely to give up #1 in exchange for one year of KL. But the prospect of playing with Irving AND Lebron might convince Love to sign long-term with the normally hapless Cavs. And James isn't likely to leave Miami if they win this year, and have a chance to make history with an unprecedented 4th next year.
A little convoluted, but logical enough for me to cheer for the Spurs. Go Spurs (even you, Timmy)!

I've thought of the exact same reasoning. That, and I don't like the way Miami built their team. Sure, it was "noble" of them to take less money, but teaming up with your buddies because you can't hack it on your own irks me.
Tim is "by far the biggest dink in the league"? In what way? Obviously I don't know these guys personally, but I find that extremely hard to believe.

I am pulling for the Spurs. They are all that is good about basketball in my eyes. Great coaching. Building within. Stars taking less money to be part of a team. I also would love to see LeBron go back to Cleveland. I am not sure how Love would feel be the 3rd best player on a team. He would disappear like Bosh has in peoples minds and be more of a role player and not the man. Could his ego take that?

3rd best? He's miles better than Kyrie. Different galaxies even.

I was surprised too...always seemed like a soft-spoken nice guy to me. But my son's friend didn't hesitate when I asked him my question. He said the arrogance level in an NBA locker room is generally pretty high, but Timmy takes it to a new level. When I asked him if perhaps Duncan just wasn't friendly to reporters, he admitted that was part of it...but he also said it seemed like Duncan's teammates just sort of tolerate him too, because he's been so good on the court for so long. Not a likable guy at all.
I'm still cheering for the Spurs...I love Parker, Manu and Pop!

The Cavs are a franchise who can't make the playoffs getting the number 1 pick twice and top 5 the other years. They have an owner who competly threw Lebron under the bus, and for some reason gave away a 1st round pick for half a season of Deng. Lebron will leave a team thats been to the finals 3 years in a row, only lost 1 series, and lives in south beach? Less then 0 % chance he leaves

You root for the Spurs so Duncan, Ginobili and Pop retire on top and take one of the consistent top teams in the West back down to our level. If we want to make the playoffs, we need those guys to go away so we have a team drop out of the top 8 that were in this year, I don't think Parker/Leonard/Splitter is going to be good enough to guarantee them a spot which is what we need.

I'm going to say Love is MUCH MUCH more equiped than Bosh to be a 3rd type guy. Love can get 10ppg on just rebounding and hustle alone that would also get him to the FT line for those points. Imagine Lebron and if we are going the cavs route Kyrie driving and kicking to Love for 3s and even around the basket. Nasty it wouldn't be fair on offense I bet Love could score 17ppg maybe even more with no plays ever run for him as long as whatever elite shot creator was above him on the food chain made the right pass a couple times a game. Remember Love twice has been the most important big on Team USA. He knows how to play a role and has the skills to do so. If he was 3rd option I bet his D would be better also.

Duncan didn't talk to Parker at all during Parker's rookie season.

Ha! But wasn't that mostly because Parker only spoke French then, and Duncan only spoke...whatever they speak in the Virgin Islands?
