I realize this might be a little hard to read. I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the per 36 minute stats of the big men from summer league.

*By no means do I suggest extrapolating these into definitive judgments of their ultimate potential*

WCS seems to have performed the best of the bunch, which makes sense given the difference in age and the fact he played only about 20 MPG. Porzi was impressive too, but really anemic on the boards. Keep in mind he's had professional experience.

Okafor really struggled with his free throw shooting and wasn't much of a shotblocker. His rebounding was solid, as was his passing.

Towns is a work in progress. One thing that clearly stood out was his passing. He's already better than many veteran big men at that skill. He was also the best of this bunch at knocking down his free throws, even though he wasn't as accurate as he was in college. Still, that is a big asset. Probably the one area I was disappointed in was his rebounding. Hopefully as he gains strength and maturity, that will come around in due course.

Thanks for posting this. Realizing you were focused on the big men here, I'm curious what Russell's 36 minute numbers looked like. I refuse to judge much based solely on summer league, but I'm comforted to believe that the Lakers don't possess a future great in either Randle or Russell.

I hope big Kats passing ability leads to more fast breaking this season. Seems like I watched way too many half court sets last year

Yes, and I think the coaches need to open things up a little more. I thought Flip tended to overcoach a bit sometimes.

Russell averaged 6.2 Rebs and 3.8 Assts per 36, which is very good. He didn't shoot the ball well and turned it over a ton, but those things will come around eventually. I still think he will be really good, but yeah, none of the top 3 from the draft dominated in Summer League.

Thanks for this, q. I saw each of these guys at least twice in Vegas, and I'm not concerned about Towns' turnovers...he touched the ball way more than WCS and Porzingis, and even more than Okafor. I agree with you about being disappointed in KAT's rebounding...he clearly looked less effective on the boards than Okafor and WCS. Porzingis' block rate is sustainable, I think. He is ridiculously long and is able to block (or alter) shots without being very physical.

I'm going to take this out of context, but why is this very good?
