Need to change playoff structure.

The reason the NBA playoffs are so crappy is that the East is so bad. It is a complete joke that there may be 3 teams with a .500 or under record (2 for sure). And consider, 4 of the top 8 teams in the East have losing records against the West. They beat up on each other, and then get destroyed against real talent. Anyone think Miami, Indiana win a game against Cleveland or Atlanta? But in the West, do you think that either GS or Memphis are looking forward to playing Clips, SA or OKC?
They should simply put in top 4 from each conference for automatic bids, and then the other 8 spots go by record. Then, in case of tie between East/West team for final spot, tie break would be who has better record against other conference. This year, that would mean 10 from West and 6 from East (last year, 9-7....year before 10-6). At least we would get more competitive early rounds to the playoffs.
The other big piece here is obviously the debate of East/West rivalry. It has been a LONG time since there has been a real rivalry feeling in the NBA. Maybe back in the Bulls era? Lakers/Celtics? Not sure that it has. Spurs don't have a rivalry. Miami...not really. Dallas...no. While this is a HUGE aspect of football and baseball....maybe it just isn't important to this sport. Maybe better games would make this sport more watchable.
