Durant and the harsh reality of being a small market

Karl Towas is a really likeable guy, he seems to have his head screwed on straight , hes cerebral and appears to genuinely likes his teammates. He's gonna be a superstar for the next decade . But if anyone here thinks he'll have any sense of loyalty to the Wolves if the team isn't winning or hell even if is , let Durant remind us that rings are the only thing that ties players down. As long as a superstar resides on your team the organization has to be actively and agressively looking to make moves to get better . That star player will always be looking over the shoulder to make sure of it , or he''s gone .

Pork- Why worry about this now? He's under our control for another 8 years...just like KD was under OkC's control for 9 years. Enjoy the ride, and start worrying about this in 2023!

I think its important to show said player that your serious about winning every year. You do that by not settling for average players, maybe being more of a player in free agency instead of doing essentially nothing to improve a 29 win team other than adding another rookie.
Being proactive now may help keep him down the road . How many average seasons can we afford to have before doubt creeps in his head like it did with KD.
I don't wanna lose Towns and wait another 10 years to be competitive like we did with KG.

Lets not forget the elephant in the room that quite possibly played a key role in Durant leaving. Westbrook

Creating a winning culture is what Thibs must do and do immediately. I'm on page with you Porkchop because young talent will not wait around in a basement dwelling atmosphere without showing it physically or emotionally. 76ers is an ideal case and they have had a very good summer so far and added some talent to Colangelos new tenure.

I hope this is the last season of mediocrity with the Wolves...because big names are making it look easy to jump ship just for a championship ring.

P.s. I still see us trading Rubio to Philly for Noel. 76ers have picked up Bayless, Henderson and expect Saric to come over. They desperately need a PG.

Slim-- I still see us trading Rubio to Philly for Noel

Whatever it takes. But Ricky is feeling secure about not being dealt, to read his quotes. Someone has apparently said something to him, about this year at least.

I think the bottom line is that we can't be unwilling to pay the luxury tax when we need to, plain and simple. OKC trading Harden to save money is one of the worst franchise moves in all sports in the last decade. The rumblings shared by Lip and LST that our ownership group may have an aversion to future luxury taxes scares me. One day we are going to be faced with similar decisions and our owner better pay up. The windows happen infrequently for teams. OKC will never amass the talent that they had, I doubt we will either.

We don't need to worry about this now we have towns for another 8 years. Pork you made the point that we should of been more active in free agency and to an extent I agree with you but we also don't want to surround guys with bad contacts around towns like the pelicans did with Davis (Evans, Gordon, Holiday and asik). Looking at the upper-middle tier guys only gasol (who we went after), Horford and Fournier are the contacts I thought were solid deals.

We will have cap next year and will have about a 10 million dollar jump in the cap and payne, kg and possibly dieng and shabazz coming off the cap. If we"strike" out next year I think your point is more valid

Being buddies with his teammates and not other teams players will help. I wouldn't discount having a stable coaching situation either.
