Amidst more critisicsm than he has ever gotten Phil is fully banking on the triangle as his home run swing. My suspicion is that he told Dolan to give him a chance to go full triangle before he gives up on the Knicks. The media is going to be at him full force. I personally like the idea that basketball is basketball and despite the Warriors/Rockets changing concepts of what can be done on the court, there are a lot of ways to have success. This contrarian part of me hopes Jackson and the Knicks succeed. But it has been a disaster so far. Never a dull moment in the big apple, even when they stink.

Exactly. I get it. But it is interesting to see other great scorers who didn't have the ability to have an effective team built around them to utilize their impact. For instance, would have the triangle running through Durant in OKC have yielded different results and personnel decisions for that team? It's a system for unique movements off of iso and post ups. In theory it seems great for Porzingis and Melo, but getting Melo to buy into anything system based is a stretch.

The second stretch of Kobe's championships were always an interesting affirmation of Jackson's coaching to me. I am not sure a coach/system outside of Jackson/triangle would have won it all with the trio of Bynum/Pao/Kobe.

The Knicks have a player personnel problem first and foremost. They can put whatever system they want in place, but it's only lipstick on a pig. 'Melo and Rose are a horrible combination to build anything around. They pretty much need to start from scratch. My first move would be to fire Phil Jackson.....

Durant had one of the more impressive runs of scoring average + efficiency in NBA history.

I wouldn't shortchange what actually did happen with what conceivably could have happened. That team (and partnership) was better than it will be remembered for.

Tex Winters was also a part of those teams too. From what i have read he and Phil were really complimentary. Phil demanding someone run something that they aren't an expert in is...poor leadership.
